we're doing feminism in sociology. What are your thoughts on it? I've always thought feminists were a bunch of stuck up lesbians on periods, but haven't had a reason for thinking so. Problem is, my teacher is making out that feminists were "revolutionary thinkers", and that it's still a "very male dominated society". So instead of telling her to get back to the kitchen, I'd like to hear your views on this to see if she's actually right.

If that's your view of feminists, the smear campaigns are working. Child of the media, tut tut. They're out to get equal rights for women, so this makes them stuck-up lesbians on periods?
What they're doing is good for women obviously, but their extremists are a tad annoying as any extremists are. I think while equal rights as an issue is not even debatable, the feminist lobbyists who try to get words like "manhole" changed to "personhole" are going a bit too far. It's just a word.

Feminism is a bunch of bullshit.
Instead of actually taking action, women do what they do best: talk.
And then they say us men don't take them seriously.

What could they do further to take action then?

I'm fine with equal rights for women, but it annoys me greatly when they take it too far the other way and try to get preferential treatment in favour of women. The wages issue especially irritates me since it's been shown that women work 6 months less than men (not even including maternity leave) in the same jobs between the ages of 20 and 30.

I was joking with that part. My problem is, I can't see many ways now in which society IS male dominated.
So, is it? That's what this discussion is about.

Look at businesses.
Women have a VERY hard time trying to get into higher positions.
And when they finally got their, they have a VERY hard time proving themselves and to be taken seriously.
My mom kinda has the same problem getting in a higher position at her work.

But most of the career advancement will be done between the ages of 20 and 30. That's when you're expected to be working hard if you want the top end jobs. As I mentioned earlier, women just don't work as hard as men do. It's not sexist; it's just fact. It's suspected that it's down to not being as aggressive. Maternity leave hits hardest in those years too, and that's going to set back the careers of women who take it significantly. Again, it's nothing against the women per se - if a man was to take that much time off he'd be in the same position.
If women are treated differently when they get to those positions then that's different.

They shouldn't want special treatment and entitlements if they want to be treated equally. Being put on a pedestal above everybody else does not mean that you have solved anything.

The problem is that most feminist's aren't really about equality. A lot have a problem with men. Not just in the fact that men are often more successful, but a genuine hate of the gender. I think this is what leads to people thinking "lesbians on period's". While feminism is a good thing its the people at the top (women) who are making a joke of it.

Are you kidding?
Look at Dentists, doctors, and lawyers,
I see a shit ton of females working at those careers.
Anyone has a hard time getting higher positions if they don't get an education to prove that they can handle higher positions.
And the renaming thing is bullshit,
I want to rename Sister Chromatids to just be chromatids.
I barely see any women having too hard a time,
but I live in New Castle Australia and in San Diego california,
so it may be different around the world.

I think originally feminism was a good thing, but when activist groups want something and they actually get it, they can't just stop. They have to keep asking for more.

I have an example; 4-H in larger cities are run by women, not the club presidents, the whiny soccer moms who want a perfect club and stuff for their kids. They're picky and their husbands do just about anything they order them to do.
How would I know? Why do you think I left after the first week?
FYI all extremists are bad. If you talk to a feminist and ask her what it's all about you might get an understanding.
