it's not that such people have a lot of money and are therefore sad; it's more that they thought getting money would be fulfilling, and now that they have it, they realize that it isn't really, and are consequently unhappy

or something

because fulfillment from material possessions is fleeting.

you get the thing; you are happy you have the thing; two days later you now take the thing for granted and don't get any more satisfaction from having it

show me a person with millions and billions of dollars who is miserable and sad
really, i want to see all these miserable sad rich people, whos lives are so fucking hard as sad because theyve got so much fucking money
seriously, i want to see

you seem to be forgetting the question- the question is "can money buy you happiness" not "will having money make you happy?" what i'm saying is money can't buy you happiness, that doesn't mean that having money will make you miserable.

But what if this doesn't happen? You can't guarantee that a rich person will not appreciate the things they buy for a long time.

nothing will bring you eternal happiness. happiness is always fleeting.
and having money will be able to let you do whatever you want in your lifetime (for the most part). you know all your dreams and shit? probably could be solved with a shitload of cash

Yeah totally. Money CAN absolutely make anyone happy, especially in bad economic times like this. I know people who are struggling with lack of money to get small simple things like bread and butter. Money can make nearly all problems go away, think about it.

Also I hate about being in the middle class of society financially. We're the only ones who truly want more money. Very poor people would love money but they don't care to think or want as much money as we want since they'd probably be busy thinking about how to survive until the next day. And filthy rich people have so much money that they don't give a shit about it. See the problem?

indeed; i like that "happiness is always fleeting" can't argue with that. i think this phrase answers the question in this forum. everybody will post their opinion but this phrase closes it for me. happiness is not eternal but fleeting.
