A simple, yet deceptively difficult challenge.

Here's the bugger you have to animate:

Image

I had decided to use him this morning because I was in the mood to animate but not to do anything serious. What a fool I was. He's amazingly difficult to move properly.

Task:

Animate that thing. It can do whatever you want it to but it must be able to get from one end of the screen to the other somehow. Some sort of walk alone is perfectly acceptable. You must not breach the laws of physics. If it loses its balance you've failed.

The Thing:

It's a circle with two identical legs attached exactly opposite each other. The top part of each leg must be less than the diameter of the circle. The bottom part of each leg is more than twice the length of the top part. The knees may bend in any direction.

Specs:

Any program (flashers and easytooners, watch your resizing - I don't want you cheating with bendy or stretchy limbs).
Any size screen.
Any frame rate.

This is about movement. None of those things really matter.

What you will be judged on:

I'm judging. This is not a democracy. I will decide who has done best on:
- Smoothness
- Creativity
- Accuracy (meaning foot placement and resizing)
- Absence of other things. I would prefer your animation not to be over-complicated with other objects coming in. Guns will get you marked down. Anything from Droidz will get you marked down further. Camera movement is ok.

I will also disqualify you if it should have fallen over but doesn't. If he falls over and gets back up again then fine. Basically don't fuck with gravity.

Due Date:

It shouldn't really take you long to do. I'm giving two weeks because some people might not see the competition until Saturday. 19/04/10

Prize:

A shiny penny, like I said.

Have fun with this. I know I did.

Example (not by Kieran - mine):

Yeah, but they tend to be specially shaped for it. Balls can't.

The point was to see if you could make it move naturally. I put that rule in specifically so that you couldn't do stuff like that. Sorry.

Nice. You're gonna have to wait for everyone else to fail first though.
