The official Japanese site has confirmed that the next generation of Pokémon games, the much anticipated Gen V, will be called ポケットモンスターブラック Pocket Monsters Black and ポケットモンスターホワイト Pocket Monsters White. That's Pokémon Black and White to the rest of us.




The games are set to be released for the DS in Autumn 2010 in Japan, which will probably translate to a Summer 2011 release in Europe and America.

Nintendo have already said that the games will, of course, introduce a new generation of Pokémon, but also that "every aspect will be reborn innovatively". A lot more details are set to follow with the release of the latest version of CoroCoro and the April 11th episode of Pokémon Sunday promising to reveal lots of new details, so stay tuned folks!

My theory is that because the names are so awful, they're planning extra special games this time around to make up for it. Woo!

Anyway. We'll see how this reinvention goes. Gods know they need to refresh the series after all these years, and HG/SS is a good note to move away from the old format.

Can't wait for details, I really want to see what they're doing with this.

I'm anticipating this as well, but I swear I could possibly see Al Sharpton making some sort of racial fuss about this saying it's some racist, and pro-segregation message...

I'm loving the cosmetic changes to the sprite. I think the people are actually all grown up, since there have been rumours of the usage of cars instead of bikes. **** yeah.

Unless it's a Noddy-style car and moves at exactly the same speed as the old bikes used to and somehow fits in your bag when you're not using it, I can imagine this killing the game for me.

This killed the game? Not the awful adventures of Diamond and Pearl? It's about time they renovated themselves instead of whoring out the same 500 dex Pokémon and the cheap graphical content. The mini games were hot, same with the fully interactive Y-button feature that was given to the bottom screen - the touch screen part.

Not Pokémon as a whole - just this edition. They all die in various ways. This one seems to be going critical on transport.

Oh I see. Fair enough. But I do think they are heading for something incredible in this Generation. But I hope Zoroak isn't a cheap Lucario knock off. I want a legendary with a god dammed pre-evolution.
