Alright, I'm currently in danger of losing one of my best friends because a discussion lead to me telling him about my small stash. He constantly states that "it's bad for you" and it's "extremely harmful to the body" during our conversations. I try to enlighten him but he seems to block it out. He grew up in a very Christian family and is a practiced Christian. I think he's been brainwashed by that stupid anti-drug propaganda. The only site he has referenced me to, http://www.marijuana-addiction.net/marijuana-dangers.htm only states and over-exaggerates 'bad' effects and some that aren't even true. None of this information is cited from what I've read and he seems to be stuck in a lockdown state against everything I've tried to tell him. Here's a snippet from one of out conversations.

He left afterward. The only citation there was for Spencer Recovery Center, which produced that site I mentioned above. I can't seem to get through to him and I don't want to lose a good friend.


I need some help with this. I've never succeeded at negotiating with a Christian.

Serious Advice to follow:

Just tell him that you appreciate his advice and concern but that it's your decision what you do and don't do with your body. Tell him that you don't criticize his life style or attempt to control his life and he should show the same respect for you.

Tell him that you take full responsibility for any negative health effects that may occur, and that if he witnesses any immoral behaviour from you that is evidently caused by your marijuana addiction that he should point them out.

Following thus make sure he remembers why you're friends and that your use of a controversial substance doesn't change who you are, remind him that he liked who you are before he knew about your stash, even though you were using it then. That it hasn't impugned or changed your character.

In short, make sure he understands you appreciate his concern, but that you can take responsibility for your own actions, that you respect his lifestyle and he should respect yours. You are the person he knew and obviously marijuana hasn't made you into a terrible person. Respect him and expect him to respect you.

Honestly, she always thinks I'm baked even when I'm not so I don't see this as a problem. She just jokes about me always seeming high and something about me raping goats.

Dude I was raised Christian but you can do what you want to do. I have no problem with my friends that smoke.

Yeah, he's hardcore Christian. He kept telling me that I'd basically destroy myself by smoking weed but I haven't had any ill effects from it. He really doesn't like the idea of it and I don't want it to hurt our friendship.
