If someone has that mindset, then honestly, they need to change their perspective. I'm not gonna lie, I used to be like that too (and I still am just a bit). But eventually you have to learn, someone elses success is not your failure. Of course, sometimes people just cant change the way they think, and there is nothing others can do to force them to. But the best way to continuing improving, is to know that eventually you WILL improve.
"still am just a bit" how?!?! Who do you look up to exactly? The only people i can think of that's anywhere close to your level is Reb, Hyun, Terkoiz, or f*ckin Disney. But I agree with basically everything here. EVERYONE improves if they get the right training. But as drone said, practice doesn't necessarily make perfect. But that doesn't mean everyone has a certain cap to their skill. They just have to practice newer things. If i hadn't seen a tutorial from Terkoiz, I'd still be making shit like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xgY24pB8ic&feature=youtube_gdata_player and it does require a change in perspective. When I saw the Shock series i instantly thought "terkoiz is da best ever" and before i stared my career in programming i should give animation a try and make something better than shock. Little did i know animation would be so gawdamn hard. I'm still pushing through though, and I'm getting closer to my goal every time i animate. How good you get at something DOES have a limit. That limit is how far you're willing to take it. I'm willing to take animation to my grave, so for all I know, eventually I'll be taking on Terkoiz. So basically, when you see something this legitimately amazing, don't take it as a threat, take it as something you learn from and improve off of until you can make something even better.
