View Profile EDIT: (took out unnecessary information)
There's nothing in many 'holy books' that say animals do or do not go to heaven.
But the comic strip presents a compelling argument to say that they can't.

View Profile Well I'm a protestantic christian and all I can say right now is that most teenagers who are in a religion have a way more sceptical approach to religions. I mean, it is quite clear you can't take everything in the Holy Bible for given (ok, burn me as a heretic). At least that's my opinion. And about heaven and hell, I see them more as a moralic approach. I mean, when you're dying, you'll most surely reflect your life and can say "I've been good" or "I've been bad", and it's your own decision what you have done and if you are happy with your life. My opinion.

So you just pick and choose what to believe based on what makes sense and what doesn't? Why believe any of it in that case?

You can do this without religion.

If you can't take everything in the Bible for given, then how do you know what you pick and choose is the part that is right?

Define 'right? Supposedly all parts are right. But I'm sure Atheists on this forum (and many others) have already debunked many parts.

View Profile The Bible was written by human beings and is said to be the word of God.
The Bible was not written by God or Jesus Christ.
The Bible is not necessarily a rule book, it's more like a set of instructions for living a good life and caring about one another.
There is nothing wrong with that. The creation of the world in Genesis one is exaggerated. The idea is for it to be simple enough for everyone to understand.
If I was a Christian and said I didn't believe the world was created in seven days, that doesn't mean that I am sinning and have a flaw in my faith and will not go to Heaven for it. That is ridiculous.
The idea is everything in the Bible is right. So if you pick and chose you aren't choosing any wrong answers, and I'm certain if you do not break one of the ten commandments you are not going to be denied entrance to eternal salvation.
The Bible was written to appeal to the people who's knowledge was very limited.
If everyone thinks the world is flat, and you are the one person going around saying it is round and revolves around the sun, you would probably be stoned.

View Profile but what about the segments of the bible that mention stoning your child for insubordination? That doesn't seem "loving and caring".
The bible is an outdated book full of violence and inappropriate material.
As Penn jilette said it, "Nothing will make you an atheist faster than reading the bible".

Exactly what I was thinking, fucking flooding earth doesn't seem very loving.

5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
Stoning your child is extreme. The Bible isn't meant to be taken literally word for word. Like I said, it isn't a rulebook, it is a set of instructions.
As for the flood, that was most likely an exaggeration as well. The entire world being flooded seems unlikely, and Noah and his family repopulating the world without any signs of incest is even more unlikely.
There was probably a terrible flood that someone predicted and it killed a lot of sinful non-believers. The flood is more like a story to be told to children to keep them from not believing in God :/
