So yeah, i made this in like two hours.
I'm happy with it, but i feel it could've been better...but i'm having a hard time coming up with how to go about improving the colors and texturing it.

(file is to big, can't embed apparently >.>)
I'd appreciate some CnC, and perhaps someone could help explain to me how to better texture metal and cloth.
(Oh, this is a present for Kizunami so you should totally tell him)

First thing you need to do is change the gradients on the blade so they appear to be from the same light source. Start with that, see how it looks, then worry about a metal texture.

When using linear colors like that, you only really want the brighter colors. You have a lot of dark greys which isn't good.
Your sheath for example, the bottom metal piece looks like a cylinder almost because of the coloring.
As far as textures go, I believe you want something with a lot of lines for your metal, and something sort of grainy for your cloth.
is a good metal texture, just shrink it and increase the brightness where you need to.
is a good cloth texture for you with the proper adjusting.
It's going to take you a while to get the textures working just right, but I think you can do it with some practice.
Don't be afraid to use google.
