Whaaat? This is my exact situation right now. I would love to talk with other older people about what kind of homework I should be expecting once I get into college.
And what are the classes like? I'm just starting to seriously get into the college area, and I still have no idea what goes on in them.
Hi Devour, how are you? If you have any questions I've talked with/ read over discussions with many of the older crowd of animators here and from FluidAnims (as that's where I really started looking over the communities for stick anims), and they have good advice/ stories, so I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help. If you've watched the rival series the creator's a nice guy and he has a rival series page on facebook that's really active with a bunch of people who ask questions. I'm a freshman in college and really wish I would have had more people to talk to in high school so if you have any questions ask away!
My classes are for an animation/VFX major, and mainly consist of general artists courses. We learn the classical forms of drawing with charcoal on 18x24 size paper, the drawings start off with a fundamental class where you learn to measure with your pencil (or some measuring stick/ see through ruler), then figure drawing (drawing nude figure), intro to computer graphics (After Effects, Maya, Photoshop), an animation course with different mediums besides drawings called experimental animation (claymation,stop-mo of all types, pixillation, puppet, tons of stuff), Computer Animation and Production (basically further intro for AE and Maya), perspective class, color theory, really just 2 years of fundamentals. Depends on your school and major.
Should look online for a school near you and start visiting as soon as possible. I started late (in my opinion), and began taking pre-college courses at my current uni junior year. If I had known freshman year I would have jumped at the chance because I learned so much. Plus, I was in an academy within my high school that taught the fundamentals of basically the adobe suite. I visited 3-4 art schools in my area as there aren't many that offer a good 3D animation program since it's a relatively new medium. Many schools have poor programs for the major, but at the same time it wouldn't really matter for me since I want to focus on 2D. Really your best bet is to use your free time wisely and search for schools/ plan trips. If you go with friends it's always fun too. Other than that take advantages of any opportunities you get xD.
