I think it's morally wrong on several levels, but I want to hear some of your opinions first.

If the prostitute is there by her own accord and representing herself to sell her own body, with no pimp or anyone else coercing her, then i think its fine and should be her choice. Every pimp and sex trafficker on the other hand should be jailed and face huge fines.

The act of prostituting may be regarded as immoral by some individuals understandably. Some consider sex as having more significance then others and can't simply be bought with a couple of bucks. Selling ones body for money, represents greed in a sense.

However, if we look at circumstances, prostitution may be the only viable option in earning a living and maybe the easiest. If they use this money to provide for a family or somehow try to benefit themselves in a positive manner, then it can't be considered immoral. It is a sacrifice a person makes in order to provide them with necessities.

On the other hand those that blow the money on shit and merely do it for the enjoyment cannot be considered as moral in my personal opinion. Those that indulge on such things can't be considered very moral people.

It is very difficult to generalise whether it is entirely good or bad. In the end it depends on the circumstances.

I think the main issue with prostitution is that women can be forced into it, either by violence or by circumstances. If the woman actually does want to become a prostitute as a career choice then I don't see an issue. The act of prostitution itself is not considered immoral by any proposed ethical system except possibly divine command theory.

It's not immoral in and of itself by my standards. Sounds like a good choice to me, being paid to have sex.

in most cases yes. But I could be a prostitute, it's not as if having sex with an ugly, fat person would be a really bad experience considering there's money involved.

I think the major worry would be the health risks.

... is what I was going to say. Then I remembered something I'd read a few months ago and thought I could back myself up with some data. Turns out the discount for using a condom is only $2 on average, so I guess it's not as much of a concern for them as I thought.

In an unbiased and nonreligious opinion, I don't rly think it is a big deal... I think it is better than being a nasty skank who does it just for the hell of it...

How is it morally acceptable to tell someone what they can/can't do with their body, if all parties are consenting and no harm is being done?

Being sexually promiscuous of your own volition, regardless of whether you are being paid for it or not, is totally morally acceptable. The only problems I have with the [for lack of a better word] industry is where you have pimps beating women and taking half their money and stuff like that, but then that has nothing to do with prostitution as a bare concept. I can't think of any other real argument against it.
