Well, I've kinda been wondering this for a couple days now, if you do good in school, does it necessarily mean you'll be successful?

What do you mean by 'successful'? If you're in school and you're doing well, it sounds like you already are successful.

Grades aren't too important for your college applications unless you're going for Ivy league, they really only help for scholarships. Beyond college, your high school performance is about as meaningless as it gets. If you get straight A's it's a good indicator of your ability to stay on top of shit, but even then, high school is a walk in the park compared to the whole "real life" thing.

There are people I know in school who make all A's, but have no idea what they want to do with their life, so they will probably not be successful, because they don't know how to start. So I suppose the answer is no.

Successful in life? Not always, however it is better then getting bad grades. It is not guaranteed that you will be successful but it gives you a better chance. Essentially school provides you with knowledge that is required for the future. It trains your basic skills like how to study, become organised, etc and points you into a career you may perhaps want. Those that receive good grades may have sharpened these skills. Though of course there are other reasons.

In Victoria, in order to get into a good university you will need decent scores. Therefore doing well in school determines whether you will be successful in entering a uni you want. From there, the person may have a greater chance of becoming what they want to be compared to those having failed to enter a uni at all.

Most things in school is hand fed to you. The moment you enter the outside world, you probably won't receive the substantial support given to you while in school. For example, students who receive tuition. They get top grades as they receive extra help and advice from their tutors. However remove this aspect when entering a place like university, independence can be ones down fall. Doing well in school on prepares you to an extent.

A person can be a garbage truck driver and be considered successful as they enjoy their job. Whether you are successful is dependent on you.

i found that, while everything i learned in high school was complete tommyrot, they managed to teach me the responsibility to actually learn. if you can't discipline yourself in high school you're going to do badly in university, where suddenly the teachers don't even begin to care if you show up or not.

it's all on you to make the decision to get off your ass and go to the lectures, and if you can't force yourself to do it there is nobody else there to make you - meaning the responsibility is suddenly on you to actually get shit done.

No it doesn't. Take Bill Gates and Albert Eienstein for example. And a bunch of other athletes that didn't attend college.
