I would appreciate the anime more if the main character wasn't a brick
It's still good, it's just really awkward to watch at times
I keep telling myself "maybe it's not so bad, maybe he's just emotionally stunted because of some event, and maybe he'll come out of his shell after he's confronted by it", buuuuut, with every passing episode I think the chance of it happening become less and less, and on the off chance that it does happen I'll probably think it's to little to late.
But yeah, it's hard to get behind a mannequin.
I didn't see the most recent episode yet, but most of my problems are character based.
A. I don't like how the anime makes it out to seem like Slain and the princess are the only Martians who aren't conceited people. It feels unrealistic and shallow in general, and all it does is make the antagonists seem typical and boring.
Again, they had the perfect opportunity during the ceasefire, introduce someone who represents a less militaristic Martian to do that investigation and have them challenge the warmonger beliefs of a few of the Knights. Basically, give me my god damn internal politics!!!!
B. The Earth MC is largely boring (once again, didn't watch latest episode. Apparently he has emotion! Yay!). At this point, he's a very powerful character, but he seems too powerful. He's a genius kid, but he can work the mechs like a charm. That part irks me, but I can get past it. But my real problems with the MC and the anime in general...
I kinda agree, I don't see it as a problem at the moment but if they keep throwing the same battles at him I'll lose interest. At the moment it just seems like he's outgunned, all he's had to do is figure out the weakness, exploit it, profit, I mean he's a genius kid, so put him against a smart pilot who also outguns him, someone that will present an actual challenge (and might actually be tough enough to kick some emotions into Inaho...). I also don't have a problem with him being able to work the mech well, from what I've seen he hasn't done anything technically impressive (though I probably wouldn't know if I saw it due to everyone else's incompetence) and he comes from what seems like a military background and has had military training for most of his life.
C. What bothers me the most is how formulaic the episodes are. They largely consist of princess expressing her dilemma for the umpteenth time, surprise robot attack, send infantry only to have them raped in a few seconds, MC comes in to save the day. At the very least, the MC can ask others for help, but the only help he's ever gotten is telling his friends what to do, giving them no more involvement then just being there. The anime pretty much focusing on him alone feels like every other character just seems to be... there.
Lol, yup. It's exactly what I thought the show was going to avoid too...
D. Speaking of formulaic, the guy that always has those war flashbacks is also starting to irk me. It didn't bother me at first, but if every battle is going to start with him hesitating in front of the wheel, I'm going to go nuts. It's not huge right now because I can see what they're trying to do, but it's starting to get on my nerves.
At the moment it seems like they're just beating a dead horse, we keep getting the flashbacks but he never actually develops, he IS Shinji.
E. The whole Slaine/King episode was pretty bullshit, and I already think we already established why.
Urghhhhhhh.
oh, and am i the only one here in this thread who doesn't participate in anime debates/arguments? xD
Whoa, whoa, whoa. We like to call them "discussions".
