View Profile Actually, the first episode made me considerably less salty about the ending of last season, but I'm still grumpy about the lazily written red herrings.
I also have a minor problem already:
So you only need the blood of the royal family to activate aldnoah? But everything that family member activated will break down if they die? So if they die and you get there blood and you use it to reactivate the aldnoah can it never break down again? Did it only work because Slaine managed to revive the Princess before the Terrans used Inaho to start up the ship again? Either this a fucked or I seriously misunderstood what happened when they used Inaho to reactivate the ship.
Where did they suddenly get this royal family member that also wants to rebel against her family? Why do they need her? Can't they just use the Princess' blood now? They certainly know seeing as that other girl kept talking about how she's only useful for her blood, or at the very least I can't imagine someone not doing tests in the year and a half time skip that we had.
Correct me if Im wrong, but the way this anime's approaching, it's becoming more and more like Code Gease, like seriously, now that they added the eye thing which now makes him even more overpowered than before, the feeling just tells me that this is just gonna be a code gease storyline all over again, except for the fact that they replace an arrogant anti-hero with a tedious, emotionless protagonist. Or in other word, a Code Gease rip-off.
Also, the fact that everyone is alive magically, even including SaazBaum is still amusing to me.

View Profile Calling it a "Code Geass rip-off" is unfair and kinda means you've taken both shows just at face value.
edit: In other news I've started watching Mayo Chiki and I immediately regret watching Mayo Chiki.

Edit: I'd also like to know why the war has continued seeing as the reason it first broke out was because the Princess had been killed? They can't exactly say "oh she was alive the whole time and we rescued her" as blowing up her convoy is a terrible way of taking a hostage and Earth never gave a ransom for her capture, they also can't say "it was a double and she was safe all along" or that "she was injured and we had her safe all along" seeing as no one reported that to the Emperor and a high ranking dude even told him that she was dead... Why is the war continuing and why is no one investigating the orbital knights?!
I know this is pretty early on in the season, but the characters so far also seem scaringly one-dimensional (some more than before), and Inaho is still incredibly bland.
Concerning your "motive" piece, wasn't the princess' death just a loophole to start a war and there was a deeper reason to it or something? I can't recall that well, but I remember that being the case, which makes sense in context. Still doesn't explain why the fuck Slaine is doing anything that he's doing (ex. saving the count).
I thought we always watched more than one episode, wasn't it around three?
No, but I could start doing that.

But Inaho can do small talk now! Or at least we're told he can do small talk now! But yeah, I have no hopes for any secondary characters, I think we might get so interesting diversity seeing as the martians are now a bigger park of the story, but I doubt any of them will be deep or complex, at this stage I'm really only expecting to get stuff out of Slaine and the Count, but I have a feeling what we'll get will be limited to angst and vengeance.
Killing the Princess was a way of justifying the Orbital Knights invading, without that they wouldn't have the support from the Vers Empire. That's why the Terrans needed to get her to that base, so she could let the Vers Empire know that the Orbital Knights (or at least some of them) were going rouge, which would have halted the war. With the Princess alive (or pretending to be alive) they no longer have that justification and a whole bunch of problems pop up of why the Orbital Knights didn't know what the fuck was going on. It's still plausible that they could make up an excuse which will still justify the war, but as of ep 2 they haven't given one, and even with a good excuse any good military would be investigating what was going on.
That said, I disagree with you about Slaine and the Count, he needed a way to get out and a way to save the Princess and at the time he couldn't pilot the mech that was there because he wasn't a Knight yet (I hope I'm remembering all that right), he held the Count at gun point and gave him the ultimatum, die here or help me save the Princess. This makes sense for all of Slaine's win conditions, he's saved the Princess, he's a Knight fighting the Terrans because he sympathize with the Counts rebellion and has a strange sense of justice/want for change.
That said, I'm curious as to why he's keen on saving martians but cool with invading a planet... But I'm pretty sure it's just a means of saving/helping the Princess. I hope his idiocy is slammed in his face by the Princess and we get a nice serving of meaningful development.
No, but I could start doing that.
Eh, don't bother if you don't want to, I just remember watching either 2 or 3 before I made all my write ups and we all seemed to do them at the same time, and on top of that I'm usually a week behind, so I thought everyone else was doing write ups after 3 eps lol.

How can you not love awkward angsty romance and cut and paste character tropes though

No Slaine could activate the Aldonoah Dorivo already by that time for some unexplained reason. That's how he got to the Inaho vs Count fight and further transformed into a huge idiot

See, now I'm confused, usually I would read this as you being sarcastic and take away from it that awkward angsty romances and cut and paste character tropes are not something to love, but your MAL says you gave it an 8/10, which makes me think that maybe you're being serious...

Good point, there is more than enough reason to be salty about all the unexplained powering ups, maybe they were all already activated which means anyone could have piloted them, maybe we'll never know. It doesn't change the fact that he needed the Count to save the Princess because otherwise he wouldn't have had the technology to do anything...

View Profile You're all probably gonna hang me at a stake for this; I haven't watched Code Geass yet.
But I'm watching it right now, don't kill me.

Thinking about it, the thing Inaho and Slaine had in common that connects to the princess is that they both kissed her, and maybe the power to activate the alonoah doraaaiiivvvooo can be given by spitting in someone else's mouth.
edit.
watched ep 2 and that confirms the kiss theory. It also seems like the Earth people should just send Inaho to battle alone to heavily reduce casualty while keeping effectiveness to be literally the same.

That's a very good point, in the second episode the other Princess chick deactivates his robot because I guess she's being moody or some shit and Slaine can't start it up, he then goes to get her to make her power it up and she ends the conversation by kissing him and telling him to do it himself.
So you're probs right, or at least it means they can activate stuff at least once.

View Profile As soon as they confirm the kiss theory as canon we're gonna high five, or you're gonna get a pat on the back seeing as I didn't really do anything... But it leads back to my initial complaint about them not draining the Princess of her bodily fluids to activate aldnoah, coz this means they definitely know.
But yeah, I also don't get why Inaho has a cool ass fucking eye thing that allows him to be super bad ass, but they can't add a cool ass fucking eye thing into all their mechs... Or at least a few of their mechs... They have the technology but won't because... Reasons?..

View Profile I'm going to continue my predictions streak.
I'm willing to bet that the eye runs on swag and natural talent for everything, and robots don't have either of those, so...
As for the fluids thing, idk I mean the Marsians still have other, more practical methods of activating the aldunowah doughrayyyyeve lmao so collecting fluids doesn't seem to make sense. I mean I doubt they would defile their oh so precious princess' barely living body just to squeeze out some spit.
