Yeah DMC is more of a straight up comedy series, it's just the only thing that came to mind
I've never seen Cromartie High School, I wouldn't know where the similarities lie but if what your looking for is the symbolism and all that then don't watch DMC lol, I was going off the general feel of the shows

If you want something fast paced with good animation and a mindfuck story, Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei probably fits the bill. I haven't seen past the first episode because reading the subtitles can only be described as an eye relay race, but it picks up really quick, and the animation is good. Obviously I can't vouch for the story but it's apparently pretty intricate

Oh
Lmao, nah, most of the time you were talking about monogatari, if you ever mentioned it I was either not aroundor I missed it.
I can't keep up with anything they're saying though, that's the only reason I haven't gone any further. Well, I can keep up, but it tookall my mind power just to read so I wasn't really focusing or absorbing all the information...

bakemonogatari was my favorite for a while, but i was mostly joking about it being a postmodern masterpiece or whatever. the low quality sequels managed to slowly kill my view of the series as a concise and well-thought-out work of art.
i had the opening of the tatami galaxy in my signature for a while. i don't remember what year anything happened tho

Quote from Indexthe entire thing is an allegory for growing up and most of the characters represent something
i can understand if you don't like that sort of thing
however even if you don't get into what it "means" i think it's still visually excellent and has an amazing soundtrack
i wish more anime was like FLCL. short and daring. a burst of raw imagination and creativity, even without a concrete "plot line." because anime is best when it does everything you can't get from books, movies, or real life, imo.
haven't watched it for years and years but it should be a pretty satisfying rewatch especially since it's so short.
the theme of 'growing up' was there but buried under so much nonsense that it was barely notable. furthermore, it's a theme i don't have any interest in to start with because it always ends with me cringing.
the soundtrack wasn't anything special to me, not my kind of music. the visual work was singlehandedly where my final score of '6' came from.
i get that the story was subtle and somewhat complex and probably warrants a rewatch to appreciate in its entirety, but frankly i didn't enjoy the series anywhere near enough to bother with that

you call it "nonsense" but it could just as easily be called imagination. it was used intentionally and strategically imo, and that theme was clearly established (the literal and the abstract switching places and seeping into each other)
quote by the director: “I'd like you to think of FLCL as imagination being made physical and tangible, just as it is for me when I take whatever is in my head and draw it.”
the soundtrack isn't "my kind of music" either but it captures the emotions of the series perfectly. it's well-used, has character, and works like a motif.
also, the theme of growing up seems to pop up in a lot of art i like, idk, maybe it's because i'm a teenager?

probably that's the problem. i'm an unimaginative logic-driven person. i expect a good explanation for everything, especially crucial plot events such as growing a horn after being hit with a guitar.
i probably don't identify with the theme because i never really had a chance to enjoy late-teen/early 20s interpersonal coming-of-age drama. i was more or less uneventfully forced to grow up as soon as i hit chronic illness
by the way, since you mentioned the monogatari series, which i'm watching at the moment... is there a series set before bakemonogatari that shows how araragi ends up as a vampire? i'm halfway through monogatari s2 at the moment and have yet to find out what exactly went on there, but they keep referencing back to it so i've started to question if i missed a prequel or something.

the horn was a manifestation of puberty
its phallic nature was not coincidental
also, i am INFP and totally emotional over logical
yes, the story of araragi becoming a vampire is the entire plot of Kizumonogatari. Kizu was supposed to be made into a movie, but the project was abandoned. i read the original light novel, and after i read it, that's when i actually became a huge fan of the series because i realized a ton of shit, rewatched Bake, and my score of it shot up from like an 8 or something to being a 10/10 and something i was pretty obsessed with.

kizu? the one that hasn't come out yet?
maybe i'll check out the LN then.

kizumonogatari takes place before everything else and is technically the beginning of the whole story, but it was written after bakemonogatari. it should have been animated directly after bakemonogatari, but the animation studio responsible got sidetracked with Madoka (i think) and then opted to just skip it.
i have a very long post about the monogatari series as a whole ITT, which contains major spoilers, but if you're ever curious it's here (plot) / here (characterization/opinions)

lol
I haven't even finished updating either
Btw, I'm confused as fuck on the monogatari chronology. I'm supposed to start with Bakemonogatari, right?
