Say, any of you ever read Konjiki no Gash Bell and Doubutsu no Kuni? I am baffled that I've never heard of the latter before, and only lucky that I stumbled upon it. The moment they decide to make the setting 95% animals just goes to show that, yep, this won't be an ordinary ride.

Haven't read Doubutsu no Kuni, but I have read Gash Bell and I loved it. Definitely one of the better shounen manga out there, not to mention it has pretty interesting ideas and fantastic characters.

I recommend you giving it a shot. To translate the title is "Animal Country". A title that should foreshadow the setting. Give it a shot. You won't regret it. Maybe it'll be on par with Fullmetal Alchemist.

Woah, I wouldn't go that far. FMA is still head and shoulders above pretty much every shounen manga I've read so far.

Haha, it's probably a 7, or 8 if FMA is a 10. Or a 9, I don't know. But even so, give it a shot.

Oh, just don't expect a bad one.

I actually really like my anime selection this season. Dagashi Kashi has a cute and charming slice of life feel to it with a theme that's unique enough not to feel too boring (minimal fanservice is also a plus). Durarara x2 is moving in a direction that I may enjoy with the MC gaining more focus and development. Dimension W isn't anything special, but it has an interesting premise and art style without any tropes or themes that are too annoying. And Boku Dake ga Inai Machi has so far been a solid adaptation (though I obviously still prefer the manga).

The only anime I've been disappointed so far is Hai to Genous no Grimgar where I'm three or four episodes in and somehow even less development was done in the anime compared to the manga. I might drop it soon, but I still have hope.

Hey Xate, you still want to talk about Doubutsu no Kuni? I just finished it.

I haven't picked up any anime this season and I think you guys can already tell which ones are worth watching, so like which ones should I catch up on?

Erased (Boku dake ga Inai Machi) is probably the only really good anime out there right now. There are other decent ones you can dabble with like Dagashi Kashi, Dimension W, and Durarara x2 Ten (since you might want to get back at that), but Erased is head and shoulders above the rest. To give some context, it already has a 9.1/10 on MAL and is ranked in the top 10 anime of all time (#7 overall). I would argue that it's already a candidate for anime of the year. I've also read its manga already, which I can say is fantastic. The only downside is that it isn't fully out yet (there are about 12 episodes). It's also a mystery/thriller anime, which you might enjoy watching in succession than at weeks at a time.

So yeah. You can either wait for the full 12 episodes to come out or you can just start watching it now. But its probably the only "must watch" anime airing right now.

Isn't the manga better though? And the manga does not even get that much recognition before the anime was out.

Assassination Classroom is nice. I've read the manga so its a good one. If you haven't still tried Psycho Pass or Yozakura Quartet, I can recommend those as well.

So far the anime has been just as good. I will always prefer manga over the anime, but the difference is not nearly large enough where I'd recommend the other medium. Not yet anyway.

I knew I should've saved Erased for later. I'm still at ep4 but I think only death can release me from this anxiety. Knowing that I'll eventually catch up is making me want to peel my own skin off.

I'll get to Dimension W later cos it seems to be pretty popular, and DRRR too probs.

I don't read manga so I wouldn't know, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how a thriller story can ever be told better in manga than in anime? I mean, the sound effects that's trying to fool the viewer into falling into this false sense of security, and knowing exactly what it's trying to accomplish, is making me hyperventilate enough to fly a hot air balloon by using only my breath. I'm sure I'll get this nervous feeling if I read the manga, but I think that the ambient sounds of the anime can deliver this feeling way more intensely.
