everyone who thinks Avatar is an anime or says "I'm gonna draw anime" is a retard and/or entry-level fag, though. I thought you were trying to justify not only using the term to refer to style, but the people who believe that is what really defines its usage. (like Jutsu)

Lmfao trying to define the term 'anime' is impossible. People use it loosely for a lot of shit, like when referring to style or origin of the cartoon. Using the term Anime to refer to Japanese-animated cartoons is weird because there is no other country that has it's cartoons labelled after the word 'cartoon' in the country's native language. Japan seems to get a special treatment because the style and method is so drastically different from what is produced elsewhere. The problem is that it's not as simple as saying "If it was animated in Japan, it's Anime." A lot of Japanese studios will actually outsource their work to other countries like Korea to do stuff like in-betweens. It's not a clear distinction between an anime done entirely in-country and one that's been spread around. Technically, it wouldn't be anime if it was mostly animated in Korea. At least, that's according to that strict definition. Similarly, lots of US cartoons are produced in Japan. US companies will outsource the majority if not all of the work of their cartoons to Japan and surrounding areas where it's cheaper to have them made. This was especially true in the 80s and 90s. For example, the 1987 movie, G.I. Joe: The Movie, was animated in Japan by Toei Animation. Does that make it an anime? Technically, if you follow that strict definition. One could make the argument that japanese-animated cartoons are called anime only of style, which would imply that Anime is more about style than country of origin. Of course there are those that would vehemently deny that, and I'm not saying that it's true.
Just some food for thought. I think people get too much up in arms over the use of the word. What's even funnier is going to an anime convention and calling them cartoons. You get a lot of obnoxious people looking down their nose at you like you're a retard scumbag and saying "They're CALLED ANIME." Those people make me laugh.

Anime is the japanese word for cartoons... It also happens to be the same in the french language. Does this make french animation anime too? lol

Remember that part where I said it's not worth your time?
He'll never admit it, I mean he didn't when I had the same conversation with him months ago. Here we got several guys telling him he's wrong and he'll still refuse.

About being animated in different locations— that is actually a lot less relevant than you think. What matters is the actual production company hiring the animators. If the company in charge is a Japanese company or not, etc. The second thing is if it was created for a Japanese audience. That's generally the rule of thumb when it comes to this stuff, since wherever workers are outsourced from doesn't really change the end product, as it's based on production and the designers/directors define everything. "If it's animated in Japan" =/= "If it's Japanese". What you said about G.I. Joe: The Movie— it was produced by Marvel Productions, which is American.
About being cartoons: Of course they're cartoons. They're just a subcategory that means cartoons from a specific place, Japan. Though it doesn't make sense to call them by a more vague word, like you wouldn't normally call a square a rectangle over a square, even though it technically is. (who the fuck goes to cons? ew)
@Jutsu "Several guys"... who? Jombo came to a middle ground with me and said he actually agrees with what I said, and then called you a fag. Jeff wasn't outright telling me I'm wrong like you are, more like giving input and his view. Why are you such a douchefaggot?
EDIT: also when I responded to this topic earlier I was procrastinating like fuck and distracting myself, now i realize how lame/boring of a discussion this is. i don't want to 'debate' any points further if they're posted
