@Youwishjellyfish: I totally agree but the ferocity comes from his desire to explore and being denied that because of the giants, it was focused when his mom died. Eren is definitely a stereotypical shonen main character, but he's in a seinen like show, so his immaturity is magnified. Plus all those other character exhibit zen like states of plotkai some times, but Eren never really goes through that, except that one time where he stopped carrying about the whole situation when he had to move the boulder, but that didn't really work in his favor.
As a character outside of the story, he's just and angry kid, but I think he works in the story.
In fact, Attack On Titan's character development is so good, that even as the main character, Eren doesn't have exclusive focus. Especially on Irwen and Levi.
He turned into a titan just because his Dad gave him a shot (his Dad has terrible judgement on who should be the hero), he also defeated Annie by spontaneously combusting with the fury/angst he is despite being so unbelievably outclassed at not only hand to hand combat but also controlling titans. If that's not plotkai, then I don't know what is. AOT doesn't have the maturity to be a seinen setting, it could have, and it would have been better for it. But that's another discussion.
But you're right, he is just an angry kid, I just feel that he would have been worlds better if his desire to explore and being oppressed was the source of his motivation, and wasn't so heavily overpowered with teenage angst and dreams of revenge.
While I can agree with you that most of the secondary characters a pretty sick, a lot so fall short. Unfortunately this is just due to so many characters being killed off nearly all the time, its hard to develop and for an audience to get attached to a character that has so little screen time. But it's a little worrying when a character like Marco or Petra's death, which has such an impact on other characters, makes me feeling nothing at all. But I can't really fault the show for that.
Sometimes I think people analyze things just a liiiiittle bit too much. Just saiyan.
I'd rather just enjoy the show rather than argue about it, ya know?
This isn't really arguing, or at least I don't consider it to be, its just discussing various thoughts and opinions that come along with enjoying a show, and its something I really enjoy doing when I feel passionate about a show.
But I think the majority of this community would agree with you lol.
