yeah, it's more of a case with minor details. For example, I'll grasp the basic and general shading in a picture but ti's the little things that I seem to overlook. Like shading on someone's face or how a nose should cast a shadow or how the wrinkles should cast shadows. Those kinds of minor details

sooooo...shadows...XD
I see where you're getting at, I used to be the same way and only added shadows to parts that really needed it, but now I'm more careful on where I put them because they can make a HUGE difference.
one thing I haven't completely locked down is shading right next to the light, especially when the light is scattered like I have here.
It's all a matter of where the light is to where the shade angles, but I can't seem to get that right just yet.

Screw laws of nature! Let's just put shadows wherever we want. Hell, let's put shadow the fucking HEDGEHOG where the shading is supposed to be D:<

I also discovered a way of making a dark stone like texture by using alpha on black paint, it works kinda like photoshop ^

So would you put the stone scratches and stuff on one layer, make a new layer, draw a solid color shape that would define the rock, then adjust the alpha on that? Just a guess

basically, also doesn't hurt to blur it towards the back to give it a "distance" feel
It kinda blends itself into the other colors maintaining its brush stroke, I also try adding a gradients to give it more of the texture coloring.

Yeah, I fooled around with it a bit. It's actually a pretty simple but efficient technique. I might have to use sometime later somehow (giving you credit of course ;))

Nice pic Xero :D

not bad Xero, it looks cool, it seems like everyone just kept on improving more and more for the competitions now, but yeah you and drone are definitely going to take the upper hand when it comes to these stuffs, oh and i forgot, Gaaading as well, as well as many other good artists too :) but yeah maybe you and drone will probably have a better chance of winning if all of you stick figure artists here at Stickpage ever battle, but yeah, no one knows, maybe there might still be some super good artists that are just hidden behind this wall too, so yeah just watch out for your back, LOL XD, anyway enough said... XD

I might release a tutorial on how to do it.
Nice job anyways

I honestly don't understand why people get funny about artists having similar styles, or even trying to be like a artist you like. Personally, I would be honoured if someone like my work enough that they wanted to make something similar.
Like your work Xero, although I do find the shadow under his nose(?) a bit out of place, maybe if you blended it in a little more? Anyway, nice job man.
Now it's going to be my turn :)

Xero, you need to work a little more on shading, the shading looks sloppy and unatural, I cant tell where the light sorce is coming from.
Also, try to smooth out the particles, theyre very crooked.

Like I said kizu, i haven't completely locked down scattered shading, its a doozy.
chi strands would better if *insert rant on pressure tool and tablet here*
I'd smooth it out, but then again, it leans a bit on how you look at it.
smoothed edges aren't my forte.
Cnc taken
Now GTFO! :3

What is this crap about copying others' styles and all? Who said you can't take somebody's style in your hands and perfect it? I would be proud if somebody would do that and I would have good time talking to him/her.. and who said you can't try hundreds of other styles and see which one fits you the most?
It is rare that I comment somebody's creation on this art forum but since I already wrote the note about the styles, Groundxero, compared to your other creations this one is fairly good, this angle and flow of motion catched my eyes, but maybe it's just me.

thanks bro, though I don't quite understand what you mean by "Compared to my other work"
Could you explain that?
