My memories of xiao xiao are of such a terrible piece of animation that I didn't look for the sequels. Certainly not Shock-comparable. But I guess what I saw might have been a tribute or something.

Shock was originally planned as a tribute to Xiao Xiao series, just saying.

I'd have to say shock wins, but if it wasn't for xiao xiao, stickfigures might not be as popular as it is now.

Maybe xiao xiao was good for it's time, but now we've got better and finer animation techniques.

I'd say xiao xiao was (and still is) awesome because of the choreography and consistent animation. Xiao 3 was mostly a static shot of a plain-looking room, but the fighting was so fluid and complicated that it didn't need flashy effects, a V-cam or exaggerated physics to make it interesting to watch.

I agree with smile. Stick animators wont be inspired to animate if Xiao wasnt born.

I can agree / disagree with that statement equally. I personalky wasnt driven to animate specifically from the xiao xiao series. I did enjoy it, but it wasnt ehat necesarily got me animating. Now, the flip sideto that is thefact that i dont know that some of the other works that inspired me to animate, if tney were or werent inspired directly from xiao xiao.

I can say though, that both series's were and in my eyes are equally as influential. I cant begin to tell you how many amazing animators around today that directly got started with sticks because of shock. Likewise with xiao xiao, but those animators are mostly oldies liie myself.

I've never even heard of shock. Xiao is what got me into animating, and it's the style I try to emulate.
