opinions?
Stupid hippies or truth-spreading enlightened people?

I like the hug stuff they do with police, reminding people that power is just a human construct (sometimes people get so into their position of power they forget they're human). I also like some of what they say about corporatism, but they do forget that people need to shop to survive, which makes them seem a little arrogant.

They're arseholes. Every economic transaction increases the happiness of both parties, otherwise it wouldn't take place. Sure, there are other ways to be happy, but trying to prevent economic interaction actively reduces happiness overall.

I dunno man what they're saying seems quite similar to what George Carlin said:

And I agree with Carlin's little rant there.

Sure, because it's taking away a right for people to buy whatever the hell they want. Taking away freedom always leads to unhappiness.

But that's not what they're doing. They're not stopping anyone from doing anything. Their message challenges people to question why they want half the shit they waste their money on. Marketing and advertising works on a subconscious level to make us believe we'll be happier if we buy whatever they're selling. Are we really?

I can't tell the difference between when I want something because someone made me want it or when I just want it in itself. I think I get the same happiness in either case if the desire is fulfilled. I guess marketing things people can't have, like expensive cars or whatever, might still be bad.

I dunno. I'm sleepy now. I'll take another look in the morning.

the whole idea is directed towards the sort of people who stereotypically go shopping as a way to entertain themselves. or people who buy shit on impulse, like that toy.

Also take a look at some of their other videos and see what you think of them (as they're not all anti-consumerist). Strangely, their last video was 2 years ago :S

For instance:

Watch it to the end, his speech is quite interesting.

Ah, in this video the guy actually explains their motives/what they do:

This guy seems massively butthurt about something.

I can understand what he is saying, to an extent. Is there any decent alternative?
