So hey guys, just asking the community's opinion on this matter, would a forum currency system (like FA or SL) benefit the community and make people more productive? Or make people spam like fuck? I personally think it would be nice, people would be more dedicated to SP and plus many people (I'm pretty sure) would use this as a means of making items for forum money. These items could include signatures, avatars etc. What do you think? Good idea or horribly bad, and why?

we briefly had some kind of currency after the merge, which disappeared shortly after for some reason i am not aware of.

regardless, the likeliness of a currency being implemented is very low due to the persistent inactivity and lack of collaboration of the administrators.

Seems unnecessary for a forum like this. I've only been to one forum that has a currency system, it was focused on Photoshop signatures and graphics. It only worked because they had an entire section dedicated to buying/selling things like custom renders, signatures, text, logos, banners, website layouts, tutorials, etc...

I don't think enough people here create content worth "selling" for a currency system to work here.

Yeah, the most we could really make out of it on this forum is to have a single thread dedicated to it where the OP works out the means to calculate someones currency, and all transactions were done within that thread.

I would love to see forum business come back. It could also help colabs like it did on FA.
That is- is stone still has the formula he used on FA.

I don't get it, collabs happen when people want to work together, how does forum currency make that happen?

On FA People had to pay a very small amount of oz. (Our currency, the amount was similar to that of 3 forum posts)
All of this oz. was collected by the colab owner and most of it is given out to the top 3 as prizes.

For example, Say someone makes a really succesful colab, like Doors.
Let's say 300 people sign up paying 5 oz. each.
That gives Pluto 1500 oz.

He then gives the first place winner, the person who submitted the best part, 500 oz.
He gives the second best submission 250 oz.
and the 3rd best 100 oz.

And Pluto keeps 650 oz.

Sounds more like a competition than a collab, then. It still doesn't seem worth it.

I've been banned from three separate forums for finding exploits in their forum currency, I'd rather not see it again.

Oh, and its pretty useless.

The main thing about Fluidanim's currency people seem to forget was that it actually held real-world value, as it could be used in place of real money for real products.

Well are we going to have a plan to implement the same sort of system here?

I have no idea. It's possible, but unlikely at this point. I was mostly pointing out that fact because people keep dismissing the idea as pointless or stupid, even though the implementation FA had was very much the opposite.

^... and it actually worked out quite well. I tried to look at the flaws that forum currencies usually held and mended them to the best my ability. As well as giving it ACTUAL value along with showing some examples on how to earn yourself a solid bank without having to be the best / most popular or posting your brains out.

EDIT:
Actually, within the very first week here I was trying to get a points system installed. It was tough finding a reliable one for vbull. Once we did, the DB was so large it was taking an entire weekend to install and update. From there, when it was installed ( after a few attempts at one 'solid' one and a few other garbage mods ) it still had issues and ultimately was just lacking / being a pain.

Kinda surprising nobody thought to mention that. The way OP and others described it made it seem rather pointless/stupid.

So what could you "buy" with it? I'm assuming forum-based merchandise.. if that's the case I doubt many old FA members would buy Stickpage stuff, or anyone else for that matter. But if there's other stuff it might be an interesting addition.
