Why don't you use gradients? They'll improve your ship 10x of what you're doing now. For me, you should avoid outlines if necessary, they distract the current object to be seen.

well it depends on his taste he likes his outlines it shows more details...

not really, it looks good without outlines, but it is his choice. he hasn't said anything yet though.

Looking at the screenshot of the explosion and the art already shows how awesome its going to be :D
But i think the plasma grenade explosion could use a bit less of the blur...it seems a bit too opaque if you ask me. Otherwise the animation is pretty nice :D
