I wanted to make this thread for some time now, but was to lazy to do so, but I finally did and I wan't to have a discussion about what people think about this guy. Some people may know him, many others may not. He had an idea and he believed that people need a revolution in the human psyche. He thought that it was possible for humans to bring an end to conflict and misery. Now I know many people think that there will always be suffering, but I want people to at least have an open mind check it out. He had spoke to many live audiences about his beliefs and authored a few books. One of his main ideas is that people can't achieve this by any outside influence, only the person himself can.

Here are a few videos of him to get a gist of his beliefs.

And a wikipedia article

I mainly made this thread for people to discuss what they think about him and his idea. Is his idea worth trying or is it a lost cause?

I can't watch the videos but, this quote seems like the best summary of his teachings:

"Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized; nor should any organization be formed to lead or to coerce people along any particular path. If you first understand that, then you will see how impossible it is to organize a belief. A belief is purely an individual matter, and you cannot and must not organize it. If you do, it becomes dead, crystallized; it becomes a creed, a sect, a religion, to be imposed on others."

The only thing I'd ask is why he thinks his belief, his creed, is the only correct way to attain what he considers the "Truth" and anything else causes pain and suffering. His own views can be criticized in the same way that he criticizes all others.

Beyond that his message seems positive enough. I'm not sure what he believes could be accomplished with such a worldview, though.

I'd knew someone would bring this up. I think what he was trying to get at you must find out the truth for yourself and not let others influence your thinking or you may be led astray, and he included himself as well. The best I can explain it is that he was a freethinker. I can agree with him on some level, but I think being too close-minded isn't a good thing either.
