8 miners on gold is extremely good.
However, rushing for giants is extremely bad. Only get giants if the situation benefits from it.
A giant + archidon combo is pretty good, as you can get the giant to tank the damage.

And as for the build:
Try to get rage at somepoint. Makes a difference.

Well, my combo for Miners is 8+3 miners.
And for dealing against Giants, that idea kinda sucks (normally giant spammer already have archidons+ some melee units)
