This thread is for creepypasta and alike. If you don't know what that is, creepypasta are short horror stories, rituals or myths usually shared through message boards, forums and email. You've probably heard of at least one creepypasta. The most famous creepypasta icon at the moment seems to be Slenderman. (Oh yes, you've heard of him.) The name "creepypasta" refers to copy and pasting, since the stories are copied and pasted by people sharing them.

Creepypasta often deals with subjects like haunted video games, cursed image files or lost tv episodes. Some stories might be disturbing so read at your own risk. You can read more about creepypasta here: http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Creepypasta_Wiki

I'll start this off with an interesting little story I read yesterday. The OP was anonymous.

Genetic memory

Many classic horror icons, such as Geger’s Xenomorphs, Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head, and other disturbing creatures, share common characteristics. Pale skin, dark, sunken eyes, elongated faces, sharp teeth, and the like. These images inspire horror and revulsion in many, and with good reason. The characteristics shared by these faces are imprinted in the human mind.

Many things frighten humans instinctively. The fear is natural, and does not need to be reinforced in order to terrify. The fears are species-wide, stemming from dark times in the past when lightning could mean the burning of your tree home, thunder could be the approaching gallops of a stampede, predators could hide in darkness, and heights could make poor footing lethal.

The question you have to ask yourself is this:

What happened, deep in the hidden eras before history began, that could affect the entire human race so evenly as to give the entire species a deep, instinctual, and lasting fear of pale beings with dark, sunken eyes, razor sharp teeth, and elongated faces?

A thread about creepypasta's, huh? Didn't expect that coming :P
I mostly read videogame creepypasta's, so my favourite one is the pokemon lost silver one. I think it's really interesting, and it is one of those that CAN be real(it is not though)
Here is a link to it: http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Pokemon_Lost_Silver
If you also look there, there's a fan-made game of the creepypasta. The game is really interesting and scary to play, and makes you get more in to the story. If you want to play the game, check it out here: http://64digits.com/users/reidd/pokemon_lost_silver.zip

P.S I really don't get why people like the tails doll so much >.<

Oh, there was this one I followed for quite awhile a few years back.
I'm sure most of us creepypasta readers have heard of BEN DROWNED
http://inuscreepystuff.blogspot.com/2010/09/majora.html

It's basically about a haunted majora's mask cartridge. later in the year Jadusable came back and announced the whole thing being fake (Obviously) to the younger minds.
Before, these video's, along with a prototype "Consume" video was all he had on the channel.
it was quite an interesting follow, was glad to come across it.

Ha I remember that, the first time I read it was at like two in the morning after playing LoZ: The Wind Waker for hours. Best decision I ever made hands down

Oh yes, BEN is one of the most entertaining ones I'v read.
I'd recommend you read it, regardless of whether you'v played Majora's mask or not. (I haven't.)

I'm not sure whether this constitutes as "creepypasta," but it certainly made me depressed and scared.

Yes, that is definitely creepypasta. Pokemon games are a whole subgenre of its own in creepypasta. (Stuff like lost silver.)

I actually don't get this one, it doesn't inflicts me with the ''think about it'' effect.
"What happened, deep in the hidden eras before history began that could affect the entire human race" I think is pretty obvious that our primate ancestors being surrounded by gigantic mammals with enormous teeth had nothing more to do than protect against them for hundreds of years the most rational thing is to create a fear for them.

It wasn't the teeth thing that was relevant there, but the pale skin and dead like features. Why are humans afraid of corpses or blood? Corpses aren't dangerous.

(Disease would probably be a good explanation, though.)
