I see calling evolution a fact and a theory redundant and misleading. Theory means that there are a lot of
facts, but not everything has been worked out to the best of it's ability. ie. precambrian period
I understand what you are saying, but I suppose I am quite an ass when it comes to terminology.

You need to understand the difference between a Theory and a Scientific Theory. The distinction is incredibly important, as the people that sit around and say "Well it's JUST a THEORY!!!" demonstrate they don't understand how science works and should not be speaking on the subject.

Who are you speaking of when stating this?

Edit: My point about gravity just being a theory was a point to demonstrate how most people don't quite understand what a theory truly is. As it is a number of facts that are tried repeatedly to get the best answer. *took a class on evolution, agrees with it,

This perfectly explains all the comments I've seen from people who don't agree with evolution. It's infuriating and makes me die a little inside.

Well I did actually read it. I understand how they research and study things based on science and biology, but again, I'm those kind of strong-willed religious people who doesn't want to study more on this.

Simply saying : I just don't believe in evolution. K I'ma go somewhere else now from here. :s

I think stubborn and ignorant would be more suitable in place of the bolded and underlined words. Why would you choose to ignore knowledge and information presented to you? Do you like knowing less?

Ok. Here is how it seems to be at the moment

Theory of evolution. It is the most proven explaination of how certain things came to be now. There is alot of evidence and it seems the most logical explaination.
Scientists all over believe and have proof to believe it. They have taken tests and observed many things(Im not going to go into detail because I really don't know that much).
So that is why they believe it over what the holy bible says.

The bible. It has less proof of what happened and we can only rely on very minimal evidence to say its correct. Christians can't really physically prove what the bible says is true. But, we do have witnesses which say they have witnessed, "certain things", obviously, some of these are dubious claims.Maybe for fame or whatever.

It is quite clear that animals have developed over time and have grown into different things. But, the theory is the most logical thing to say at the moment, but that doesn't mean other religions are wrong for believing what they do. Until there is absolute clarity over the situation, I think its best we leave our religions and theories to our self's. I dont mean talk about it, but dont press what you think on others when you have no way to convince them. Thats why its better to be open minded because you could end up wrong. And then you look like a dumbass.

Thats just what I think.Sorry If I misused any words. I rushed this comment becuz I have to go somewhere.

Well yeah this seems to be like the most logical debate here.

I do not believe in the theory of evolution. Why?

For years now, our strategy for disproving the Theory of Evolution has been "It wasn't in the Bible, so it didn't happen." And while I'm a Christian, I don't think that's the sort of thing that belongs in a scientific debate, so I'll try something new.

Anyone who's taken a biology class (and stayed awake for most of it) should know about meiosis. Since I'm not an expert, and you probably want to refresh your memory, here's some information on the subject: Meiosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The reason I'm bringing meiosis up is this: as you can clearly see an offspring recieves half of its chromosomes from one parent and half from another. Because of this an offspring has exactly the same amount of chromosomes as his or her parents. No exceptions.

Here's where we get into the whole man/ape thing. According to this page: Chromosome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, human beings have 46 chromosomes (13 from each parent), whereas apes and chimpanzees have 48.

Can anyone tell me how apes could evolve into humans, losing two whole chromosomes in the process? According to the rules of meiosis, that's completely impossible.

Edit: http://biology.stackexchange.com/questions/3393/evolutionally-speaking-why-do-humans-have-46-chromosomes
Edit2: For easy ref. "telomere-to-telomere fusion of two ancestral chromosomes (IJdo et al., 1991)."

Chromosome Fusion. From Rationalwiki:

Chromosome fusion - Gene fusion or chromosome fusion is when two chromosomes are spliced together. As an example, chimpanzees have one more chromosome than humans do. If the two species share a common ancestor, scientists should be able to figure out what happened to that chromosome. Researchers have found that chromosome 2 in humans is actually the fusion of two separate chimpanzee chromosomes. At the end of each chromosome is a marker called a telomere, which usually appears only on the ends. In human chromosome 2 it also appears in the center, marking where the two ends fused.

Source

Also, you have to understand that humans did not evolve from modern apes, we share a common ancestor. Evolution isn't a ladder that goes straight up, it's like a tree that branches in many different directions. This is why "If humans came from monkeys why do monkeys still exist?" makes no sense and is a weak argument derived from misinformation and ignorance.

Chromosomal duplication is possible as well. Saying there are "no exceptions" when it comes to genetics is ridiculous. Evolution is largely driven by those exceptions, they're called mutations, and they're far from uncommon.

people seem to get way to upset when the theory of evolution is called "just a theory". i know its based on scientific facts but its still not allowed to be called a fact because theres no proof thats the way we came to be. now dont freak out that i said theres no proof, because it is true. theres only proof of this being a way we could have come into existence. so dont get mad at people saying theories aren't proof because they're really not proof. (hence why they're referred to as theories) just wanted to make that point so people would quit using it in there posts.

Umm no.

Here is an excerpt explaining your little predicament.

"Scientific theories in evolutionary biology present causal explanations for the observable and measurable phenomena of life on Earth. Natural selection and the neutral theory are examples of theories of evolution. These and other evolutionary theories can be expressed in mathematical terms of population genetics or through rational logic where human reasoning is applied. Since Darwin, the theory of evolution by means of natural selection has not only been expressed mathematically, but has also been rigorously tested and corroborated empirically by convergent scientific evidence."

Notice how they say it can be rationalized mathematically or with human logic? Based on the facts we have it's been established as a theory. Know what a theory is?

A scientific theory is "a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment." Scientists create scientific theories from hypotheses that have been corroborated through the scientific method, then gather evidence to test their accuracy. As with all forms of scientific knowledge, scientific theories are inductive in nature and do not make apodictic propositions; instead, they aim for predictive and explanatory force.

A theory in scientific terms basically means fact, what you're thinking of is a hypothesis.

There's proof in the same way that you can prove your mother exists. There's no way to do it mathematically a priori so the existence of your mother is a theory rather than a theorem.

I do not believe in the theory of evolution. I know that evolution exists in the universe and I understand how it works and why it is a fact.
There have been many contradictions to this 'Theory of Evolution'. Some people just say 'It's just a theory.', to which I'll say 'So is gravity, and I still don't see you jumping off buildings.'
The most annoying thing is that many people prioritize religion over science, turning that religion into a cult, and I find that disgusting.
I quit Christianity a while ago, mostly because of an argument between my mom and me over the topic of 'Evolution'. (That story will be for later.)
Evolution is completely supported by facts and evidence, whereas the Bible was written by ancient Jews who just want moral support for the very idea of a god watching over you. (The Bible one was an opinion. Don't judge me.)(BTW No offence.)
If one single dinosaur fossil ever turns up in the wrong timeline, the Theory of Evolution will be completely ditched. So far, evolution has passed this test with flying colours.
We evolved from apes, and we bear resemblance to them, yet we act completely different. Such is the work of evolution.
If I have to say something now, I'll say evolution is right here, all around us, doing whatever-evolution-does right in front of us. You can deny it. You can turn a blind eye. Whatever you do, it doesn't change the fact that evolution is still there, doing its job ever so slowly, but ever so seamlessly you don't even notice, and all you're doing is kneeling down with your hands clasped together, eyes closed, whispering pleas to a 'mystical being' that you can't prove is there.
Again, I do not believe in evolution. I understand how evolution is a fact. I know evolution is here, silently doing its work.
(People, 'believe' is just a word of unsupported faith. If you know that evolution is a fact, then do well to stop using 'believe' and start using 'know why' and 'understand' or something else like that. Just my opinions. Don't take me too seriously.)
