For English class, we looked at a certain article which was about the idea that the brand Lego Friends is causing genderisation in young girls.
The article itself was just one sided whining and moaning at Lego and other female-based toys, and about how they shouldn't exist, blah blah blah.
(But oh so surprisingly, there was no complaining about the same situation for boys, since as you might've guessed, the article was written by a self claimed feminist.)
But this idea has got me thinking about this.
I've asked people I know in real life, most people didn't see it as a bad thing, but there were a handful who saw it as a bad thing.
I think the idea of gendered toys is fine, nothing wrong at all, since kids are free to play with what they want, I was wondering what anyone here thought of this.

By gendered toys, you mean how boys are expected to play with transformers and girls with barbies?
Well, gender roles seem to be rooted pretty deep in our culture. It's the same with any form of entertainment. There is a clear demographic that they're trying to sell the product to. (In this case, young girls.)
Ofc I don't think gender roles are a good thing in general, but our culture is slowly moving away from them. (Hell, look at the shit that happened with My Little Pony.)
You can't fix anything by just banning and censoring stuff, that's for sure.

I don't see why someone would make a big fuse out of gendered toys >_>
I mean really, they're just stuff kids want to play with, why bother with the topic, if the girls want to play with Lego then let them, it's like this guys making it a crime to do so

That's not what I think she meant, there's a new brand known as Lego friends, supposedly aimed at girls, which is nothing but cupcakes, poodle parlours and that kind of shit.
Still, big fucking deal, they're kids, these things are only out there because their goal is to be aimed at the very cliche genderisation of boys and girls, which they usually follow.
As Leo said, people can clearly choose what they want, especially with the sudden male fan increase in My Little Pony.
My little cousins are both little girls, and they watch shit like Transformers, X-man etc.
Anyone who whines about it, give it a rest, no one cares if the big money toy companies expect girls to play dress up, or if there's such thing as a Brony.
It's entertainment, after all, pick what you like and enjoy it, that's why it exists.

Stereotypes and clichés are everywhere.

The point behind the claim that "girly" toys for girls are bad, is that in that it teaches girls to be weak from the get go. Like how in old Disney movies the princess has to be saved by a prince and all that shit. It's not really a valid point though, unless the parents are literally trying to make their kid play with barbies and ponies, even if she doesn't want to.
Feminists always get in a rage about the smallest things.

Guess what happens if someone doesn't want those toys?
They don't buy them.
They don't buy them.

well, yeah, but thats irrelevant

They wouldn't be making those toys if there wasn't demand for them.
Unless you can explain how they're harmful I don't understand what the issue is.

Feminist sees as an attempt to ridicule female self esteem?
Probably; A pretty shitty excuse though.

How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb?
Trick question, feminists can't change anything.

Sexism, it never ends.
Even if I'm a guy, I know how girls are like (nvm how >.>) Well, even if some toys, such as those ones where it's like 'They clean the house and cook!' Gendered Toys offer a bit more variety. Even if it teaches little children that Women actually do that, the variety that they offer is making sure the toy business stays intact. What if all the toys we had were just rag dolls. Kids would lose interest in them, and people could lose their job.
