I could survive without my phone.
But I'd rather not live without one.
Can you live without your phone?

My phone I absolutely don't need for work, and I haven't paid my bill for 3 months so I haven't had service for 2 months. So I would say I don't really need it. I don't have a tablet yet, though I would like one for work, but I've come this far without it. My laptop's battery and charger died just over a month ago and I've been fine so far, though I sorely miss being able to sit in my living room (and bathroom) to program. I'm still alive.
I think people who say they couldn't live are being dramatic. You could LIVE, your lifestyle would change drastically. If I had to give up my computer or the internet, which I use for my job, I would get another job. If I had to give up TV and games, then I would do something else for entertainment, maybe get a hobby woodworking. It's like that show Revolution where the power goes out. Life goes on, we would find a way to cope.

I'd be bored as hell, but I've gone without electronics before.

I'd be fine without electronics really, I've spent significant amounts of time not using any of them on purpose so I could enjoy what I was actually doing at that moment. I would hate to give them up completely but I think I could deal with it.

I'm a freelance worker so I need it to contact my clients quickly and efficiently. And using it as a communication device to my friends and family is a great necessity for me to organize events together and make sure information is exchanged within the timeframe it's needed to.
There's a reason why we've developed this technology, it creates more opportunity and ease to take that opportunity. Things in life are much more easily achieved with what we do with phones now (they go on the internet and can do Skype calls from across the world!) Honestly I'm not saying that I couldn't LIVE without it, but I am saying that it's a very big part in what I do with my life.
However for social texting and social networking, I'd actually prefer not be an option for phones.

I've always hated phones, called them electric leashes.
Over 6 months ago I lost my shit and threw my phone as hard as I could into a painting we had hanging on the wall, the loud noise, sudden blurry motion of my arm and the look on my face terrified all the animals in our house. It still felt great though, annihilating that stupid piece of shit.
Of course we can all live without our phones, and if you can't, then I'll let nature sort you out.

I might be able to go for a while. It isn't like my mom doesn't take it away at 2 minute intervals. Sometimes she grounds me so I play *gulp* board games. Horrible, right?

I don't think anyone said they're cool if they can live without a phone. It's not absolutely necessary to have one unless you're heavily into social networks or you're a very important business man, and things of the like. Sure you may need it for emergencies but how many emergencies would you run into on daily basis? Even if you do, I'm sure there are ways around it rather than using a smart phone. I'm not saying having a smart phone is bad or completely unnecessary but some people just don't need one right now. It doesn't mean they think they're cool, I'm quite certain. Even if you need a phone, why buy one that's so hella expensive when you only use it for texting and calling for the majority of the time?

Everyone can live without a phone. And everyone already told you that. Someone needs to learn to read.

I was asking Hewitt since he said it's necessary. I wasn't asking everyone. You need to learn to read.

Alright.
Anyway, the texting and the calling adds up enough that it's going to be more than the phone it's self. What kind of phone you get is really just a small price, if you think about the big picture. That's why most people have smartphones. $100 or so more dollars initially is worth it if the monthly bills are going to be the same price.

Oh right, when I said anyone, I was still talking to Hewitt see, since he said the opposite. Anyway, if you buy it with a plan, I thought the total price of paying monthly or whatever would cost even more then what the smart phone is actually worth. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

dont got a smart phone but i could probably easily live without my regular phone! i dont text all the time like the rest of the generation! my friends text me "just to chat". -_- if you want to talk to me then come on over, but im not going to spend half my day getting thumb cramps.
