Ive been thinking about how to fix the problem some of us have with not being able to open different flash version fla/files
Like if someone has Macromedia flash 8 and wants to open a fla of a newer version of flash fla but cant.
I came up with the idea that we could open a thread where people could downsave their flas. by giving them to someone with a newer or the same version of flash like their so they could downsave it and then pass it down it down someone who has cs5.5,cs5,cs4,cs3...etc. until it reaches to the Macromedia flash 8.
So it would just be basically a shop, but only like 3 ppl would be needed. One person would have cs6 and the next would would have cs4 or cs5 and the next would have cs1 or flash 8 or something
All we would need for this to work some trustworthy (as Miccool said it) and voluntary people. Or the mods could do it.:3
This could be great for people who want to do some collabs but cant due to their version of flash
Can it be done?
Or has it been already thought of but failed?
And is this a good idea?

it is a very good idea.
[edit]: like Mic said, they should probably assign a position just to do this, then creating thread with some kind of intermediate guy to post the things.

Actually it would be a pretty good idea, just have to get trustworthy ppl. Maybe assign a position just for doing these kinds of things.

Yeah, see? Open up the shop thing and maybe we can get some people to join!

you see hat's the thing...cause i mean...would u join something like this and plus i don't think a lot of people would support it( even though it would benefit us all )
that's y wat Miccool said was smart because they should just assign someone to do it
i hope a mod or admin sees this and support it

Hey, I have flash cs3 and cs6 and flash 8
Dec 23, 2012 11:05 PM #827049
this is a great idea. I am tired of switching between my mac to windows mood through bootcamp, just to use cs3 to make stuff for people with flash 8, which is most individuals here on stickpage. i personally prefer my cs5.5 and cs6, so this will help somebody like myself.

Wouldn't it work to set the swf to flash player 8 and then use an swf decompiler...

We don't really pass down .fla's to just anyone. Usually if there's a collab going on that would be the only case where we would ever need something like this, and whoever is compiling will figure it out then.

A while back I was looking at writing an online converter for FLA version types. I did a lot of research into the different FLA version types, but they are proprietary Adobe formats and Adobe doesn't provide and information or specification on them. I did manage to get a Flash CS6 -> CS5 -> CS4 converter working, because from CS4 and up Flash saves FLAs using an XML-based structure that is easy to manipulate, and from CS5 and up, FLA files are actually ZIP-based, so you can open your CS5+ FLA using a program like winzip or winrar. Try it.
Prior to CS4 though, FLA files use a binary format based on Compound File format by Microsoft, similar to how DOC files work. You can actually peek inside CS3 and Flash 8 documents using a Compound File Explorer. Conversion from the XML-based format to the binary based format would be tricky to do, so I ended up scrapping the project because it's a really niche requirement.
I don't think there are any people on Stickpage who are like me and would want to even spend the time researching and writing this kind of application, so likely this will never happen, but if anyone thinks they can take a stab at it, be my guest and feel free to use the information above.

So what I said wouldn't work.
Not sure if you ignored it...
Or just didn't see it.
