Well, I'm not sure if that's a tutorial. It's more kind of a guide. I hope this is the right section anyway.
What I'm about to say it's nothing new for most of you. And I don't want to preach or tell anyone what to do. I'll just try to help you to see some things from a different angle.
The reason I'm posting this are some of the members. As I see a quarrel between you, I feel offended. I tought that the "leets" are supposed to know, that arguing via the Internet is useless. And even if you win, it's the same thing you would get a medal on Special Olympics - you win, but you're still a retard(I don't know who said that, but it's genious).
And what do you do, when someone flames you for no (apparent) reason?
One chance is, that you don't respond. I sometimes stick to this simple rule: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all."
The other chance is, to ask politely (if you don't understand), why were you just flamed?
But don't hit back. Why? Well, first of all, you'll go offtopic and the thread will change into flame fest. That's not good, isn't it? Then, undoubtly you'll lose you respect among the others(well, if you had any).
There is something I'd like to say to the ...
a) Senoir Members:
I know, how easy is it to pick on a helpless little newb. He's new, noone will stand up for him. And what is he going to do? Talk with you and use bad grammar until you give up? Or hit you with a valid argument while he can barely spell?
My advice is not to flame or argue with newbies. Why?
Not much of the new guys stick around long. So there's no sense in arguing with them and wasting the energy. But some of them stay anyway. And one day they'll grow up in Internet gangstas and remember you, how you flamed them in their noobish days. I mean, we all were n00bs at one point, admit it.
And when you criticise someone's art or anim .... meh, I'm not going to say anything about that, read Areks's tutorial about construcive criticism.
Oh, and one more thing. Do you know, why do newbs spell so bad? Most of them have never been to a forum or they come from a chat-room. And you know, how the chat-rooms are. More interactive than the forums. And like on Habbo there is no much space for long texts, so they shorten their words. And some of them just can't speak English well.
If you want them to improve their spelling, don't say:"You phail @ life." If that'll bring them to realise that spelling is important, then I'll transform myself into a horse and eat grass until the rest of my life.
If you want to help help him, PM him and ask for the MSN contact or anything. And talk with him. Politely, without using bad words. If I recall correctly FrAnKeH helped someone that way to spell better.
And anywhere IRL or via the Internet ... if you want something, everything can be done with kindness and a natural smile. Wow, I sound like I'm selling canned politeness. But it's true. I won't start listing my own experiences ... but has anyone heard a story about the sun and the wind?
Well, once upon a time there were the sun and the wind(they're still here, but I'm telling the story here). The wind suggested a comp, to see which one of them is stronger.
He pointed at a man, who was wearing a coat and said: "Whoever makes that man to take off the coat, wins, lolk?" The sun accepted the challenge. Wind started blowing and blowing, bit the man held his coat tight, because it was cold. Then the sun started shining. The man tought, that it's too warm for wearing a coat and took it off.
I don't think it's neccesary to say, what was the lesson.
b) Junior Members:
Well, I think Lgolos said lots of important things in his thread called somehow like that: "How Not To Phail At Internet."
But I'll say something anyway ....
As you come to the SPP, read the rules first. Noone is too hardcore to read the rules. Then you'll know what's not allowed.
Then tell me, how do you usually separate a newbie from a "leet" member? Capitalising and spelling.
If you DO know, how to spell .... knock yourself out and use long words, that will make you look educated. Before you post your reply, read trough the whole post. Do you understand, what are you trying to say in your reply?
If you DON'T know how to spell ....
One choice is to get better in school at English ... or you can add smarterchild@hotmail.com to your contacts. Just ask him:" spell mammals."
He'll show it to you, if you have spelt it correctly and ask you, if you want to see the definition(command:define). Pretty useful. I have also used it for a couple of times.
THE END
