That's a tough one, and I doubt anyone will be able to give you the definite answer to that question, but it's an interesting thing to discuss for sure.

Personally, I feel as if fire-related abilities, OR swordsmanship are the most common strengths found throughout the RHG and wRHG scene. They're simple, don't require elaboration, yet are powerful, efficient and enticing strengths to have.

I personally think electricity is tied with fire and 4 out of 5 gladiators are swordsmen. Often with the previous powers. However, i wanted a more people's opinions.

Speaking of which, there's loads of energy-related abilities and powers as well.

I also have another question for anyone interested : What is, in your opinions, the most overpowered ability/set of abilities?

I myself am of the opinion that that title is reserved to either the ability to manipulate/stop time altogether (I can imagine it being difficult to kill a guy who could literally stop time), although that's a bit of an awry power and is too godlike to ever actually come into play.

When it comes to relevant abilities, I believe psychics are by far the most overpowered characters there are. My definition of a 'psychic' character is one who is capable of telekinesis, telepathy and the reading of minds (and thus the ability to manipulate the thoughts of their adversary). This is simply because these powers are really open to interpretation, and are essentially limitless. The only plausible (read, plausible) explanation to limit these kinds of powers is simply "inexperience", thus a fully powered psychic is essentially unbeatable.

The ability to predict the opponent's move before they even made it (the reading of minds) is in itself already per definition OP. Now add to that the ability to lift and control things with your mind, again extremely OP if not limited through some way (You could literally rip your opponent apart simply by wanting it. I'm sure most of us here have at some point seen the "Castle 3" animated stick movie, just think back to that scene where that guy gets blown up on top of the staircase pyramid), AND the ability to contort your foe's perception of reality, and you're left with something that's practically unbeatable (Except if pitched against someone who is capable of stopping time).

As a result, it's only logical that any kind of psychical ability is limited in some way or another (Can't lift objects heavier than themselves, using psychic abilities puts strain on the user's physical condition etc...). They are by definition so powerful that it's impossible to use any of the given attributes of a psychic at full power, as that alone makes them near-unbeatable.

So that's my take on that matter. I'm curious what you guys think.

While not specific, "Last Resort" moves that drain all of your energy are, sadly, quite common.
Another set of really common abilities are dealing with fire, electricity, and shadows.

The most overpowered ability is the ability to alter reality. Not even Superman can beat that.

The funny thing is that I have an antagonist in my character's story who can do all those things.

Back to your question I'm actually going to say that shapeshifting is the most OP power you could ever have if they get the abilities of whatever they shapeshifted into. They can literally just turn into their opponent's weakness and keep hitting them with hit. They can also manipulate others into killing each other. Now, if the opponent is very lucky, they will also have the physical weaknesses of what they turned into. The bad news is though, they have their own personality so they will never gained any psychological weaknesses the person had present. To make things even worse, the shapeshifter would have to have some prior experience of the person they are shapeshifting into and in RHG, that usually means they beat them. Thus, they know the persons limits and what caused them to fail. But some shape shifters are even worse than this. Some can partially shape shift or turn into liquid form that can't be hurt. In conclusion, I think the most OP possibility is an intelligent shapeshifter. More powerful even than anything you guys could mention. (Except a Deity.)

Yes, there is also an antagonist with most of these abilities.

Now, i have a third question to add to the previous ones. What is the most underpowered ability ever?

I'm going to say super strength because it almost always comes with the downside of being slow and thus, very vulnerable to attacks.

Now this conversation is getting convoluted. The power that on it's own is dumb. Like with super speed, does not come perfect reaction time or the durability to keep from stting yourself on fire from sheer friction.

Hey guys. I have quick question. What is the most common power used in wRHG and RHG?

I don't see "Information" in there, lol Tabitha.

Also, where's WafflesMgee? He's the perfect guy when it comes to these common trends (and adept at subverting them)

RHG - electricity, swords, speed, forms. Electricity because it's easy to animate, swords because everyone's doing it (and they do it badly,) speed because it's LESS to animate, and forms because people don't like sticking with the same ol' stale thing (wow be goddamn original then, fix that problem right up) and try to fix it by shoving three more stale direct upgrades in there. Also people like to directly copy and recolour shit from the greats, like scythes (NOT EVEN PRACTICAL WEAPONS) and scarves and the one edgy glowing eye.

wRHG - Far more varied, I'd say. Instead of powers and what not, it's several other things that I could form into tropes.

I think the reason why people do swords is because, in pivot at least, it seems cooler and easier to do. In pivot, all you have to do is attach the sword to the hand, and swing away.

Well I'm pretty sure Cronk only searched the wRHG... searching the RHG would take too long.
Swords are common because a sword is about the most basic weapon you can have. That's really it.

Also, Crenrk, congratz on making that list. I'm sure your proud of your well-spent time :P

Well, I thought about using a spear, but a sword was a simpler tool for Marcus. Especially since he's an almost exact copy/paste of my gitp nexus character.

Spears are cool. They're one of history's greatest weapons. I'd love to see them used more.
