I were a little surprised during the first second of "Watching those pictures in the first page of this thread" because they were weird, but nothing more, i don't feel ichty.

Those are lotus seed pods. I know because I've been to the Lotus Garden in mainland China. During that time, my cousin just picked a pod up and started eating the seeds. I tried one, and it tastes bitter and sweet at the same time.
