So yeah guess what the camera hates me. When I take a picture of myself, first my posture when I take a fullbody is fucked up. When it's a portrait my face gets wider, skin gets pale in an ugly way, and small facial features such as facial hair and any small acne become much more visible.
So any thoughts on how to look good on camera.

same thing to me, except the facial hair thing. i don't have the slightest idea on how to look good in pictures, and my parents always get mad on me, because i don't like to take pictures. then i say that i will look ugly but, as my parents, they always say that no, then i'm forced to take pictures. and my mother is a picture maniac, so she takes like, five pictures from me at the same time. and i look ugly in all of them. how is that even possible? i don't know. i think i'm just ugly or the camera hates me. or both.

Photoshop.
Lighting.

Low angle=power

For the picture itself:
The rule of thirds
Leave headroom

I'm not a photographer, that's all I've got

Also, don't over think a pose, or over act a smile. It'll be obvious.

Well that hurt. Umm no I wouldn't call myself or neither did anyone ever call me ugly. Not be cocky but I was regarded handsome by my some friends.

I don't know but everyone I know says that they look ugly in all their pictures (except for the super self centered people) but they don't look ugly at all. So probably from your point of view, you would say it is bad, from others, they would see as a normal picture.

His technique is really good, all the photographers I know use it. It's just a matter of showing off your jawline and keeping your forehead closer to the camera. Lighting is also important, go for a warmer feel by using ambient light or bouncing your flash off the ceiling or walls, rather than the gross direct flash/computer monitor look. Having warm light smooths your skin artificially. You can also help by shaving your ugly facial hair and getting rid of your acne through creams or healthier living. I'm not trying to be mean, but if you really don't want those to show through on a photograph, the best thing to do is to get rid of them IRL.

well, you might be looking at yourself in the mirror just at one angle, straight on. cameras won't always be straight on, so you gotta be prepared for every angle. you can see yourself in the mirror from a few angles, but a camera can get you at even more extreme angles than a mirror! so make sure you look as good as you can in every possible angle you can see in a mirror.

flashes can make a lot of people look really pale. you look pale in an ugly way? face it, you're probably pale as fuck. but that's not a problem, just embrace it. pale skin + dark hair is a good combination, you just gotta pull it off. also being pale can make facial hair stick out more. if you're concerned about how dumb your thin facial hair looks, then start shaving more often. if you think it looks dumb, then why wouldn't you shave it off? if you can notice it, then other people will probably notice it. so shave it. i have this shitty ass little child pencil-thin moustache trash-stache thing. i always imagine it's too stupid for people to notice, so i hardly ever shave. well i guess it's pretty noticeable cus my friend calls me mr. moustache sometimes. so just shave that shit.

can't help you with acne other than telling you to go to a dermatologist. they'll give you face washes, face cream (like epiduo), or maybe even an antibiotic (pills) to take which will help with acne/scarring. i always felt like my acne looked better in pictures than in real life, though. i just thought the flash drowned out my acne. idk.

anyway i look perfect in like almost all my pictures. i'm just naturally awesome at looking awesome all the time even in pictures. i'm beautiful and everyone wants to be me and be with me. and um.

oh yeah posture. your posture is probably shit if you're on a stick figure animating forum. idk. unless your active, then i bet you probably spend a lot of time sitting down. if you sit a lot, i'd bet you slouch a lot and have shitty posture. i have shitty posture. it's just something you gotta deal with. if you don't like it, then fix it. start sitting straight. do it everyday and eventually it'll feel normal to you. that's somethign i'm not willing to do, because sitting straight hurts me. because i'm so slouchy.

so are those the reasons you look bad on camera?

I see what your going for here. But I don't have that much facial hair lol, and very little acne. The camera just makes it look more obvious. Thanks anyway.

I pretty much look absolutely terrible in every photo that's ever been taken of me. I think it's cause I become self aware that some dude is documenting me so I get this incredibly tense retarded look. I hate those dudes that look super ugly irl, but they manage to take photos that make them look really hot and they upload them on facebook to indirectly show off how not ugly they are even when they really are. Fuck I'm such a girl.
