Bad red glow is bad.
It's possibly the ugliest text effect i see a lot of beginners do. Its my straight up honest opinion. I reccomend at least doing a white glow, and ditching the horrible bevel and emboss. I choose to stay away from those unless you can create a metallic/gooey effect ( i might post a tutorial on this, seeing how many people create things like this). Secondly, The colors are a no go. Dont use fully sarurated colors with brown, it just looks ugly. Instead, use colors that are lighter. Dark or nave blue and fully saturated red and green don't mix wth brown, ever. For the energy ball thingy on his hand, it's lifeless.i reccomend the following ( i am primarily a photoshop user, but just go with me on this)
-create a circular ball, filled with white. Create at least three duplicates.
-the first one should only be blurred to about 5-10 pixles, giving it a still distinct shape, yet without an overwhelming "hi, im a fucking circle", bring the opacty down to about 80-75%
-second duplicate should be blurred between 20-25px
-third should be blurred to 25px, then with the smudge tool (should but under the blur and sharpen tools are) and make subtle wisps, the result should mimic the appearance of a candle flame, or a water drop.
-on a new layer, take the brush tool and create short ring-like strokes (they should be staggered and lopsided around the ball. Assuming you dont have a tablet, erase the ends so they look pointed. Blur the lines to about 5-10px.
You can do this with any color, but if you keep the layers separate and use colorize on the larger outer glow it gives it a nice effect. Be sure to make sure the preserve luminostiy (its something like that, i dont have it up right now) isn't checked, so it actually changes.
All i can keep saying is practice makes perfect. Your stick construction is good, and although i dislike anime eyes, but they look good. Keep it up. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
