Well they already confirmed Ian McKellen as Gandalf (which means the actor is the same as in LOTR triology) and Peter Jackson only as a producer this time.

The actual director (forgot his name) already traveled to New Zealand and will be working with the same company as Peter did. That means also Gollum will be looking as usual.

As a LOTR fan, I can't wait to see what are they going to come up with. Though I see no point in splitting hairs, since the pictures are a completely different medium than books.

A penny for your toughts?

Have they finally got the green light for this?
Because there was some issues with Tolkien's grandson who owns the rights to The hobbit not wanting to sell up.

Here's hoping that it gets made as i always loved the hobbit.

Isn't it Zach Snyder directing?

No idea. As I said, I forgot the name. I was so amazed by the news I didn't put any attention into director's name.

it was a torro.. something.. the guy from a movie called pams labyrinth.

anywayz, PJ and Torro had a chat session with fans :D 1 hour long. I believe there were like 7000 questions asked ( 2 per second ) and they answered 60 ( 1 per minute. )

Alan lee and John How, the conceptual artists from LotRm who have done loads of LotR artwork before the movies, are back too. They will think of something great.

we'll be getting 2 films. 1 = hobbit, the other unknown.

Also, read on another forum:
- 2009 , preproduction
- 2010, filming
- 2011, first movie
- 2012, second, movie about who knows what.. :-)

Andy Serkis will be back too for good ol' Gollem and a lot of the LotR actors said that they would do their part too. ( Orlando bloom, viggo mortensen (? Not in the hobbit I hope xD ) Jhon rys davies I think, )

Sticks, you should really post links for proof. Especially sicne many of your claims are just plain stupid. (Viggo Mortessen, Orlando Bloom, and John Rys Davis' characters are Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli, none of which are in The Hobbit)

Oh, and the "Toro" person's name is "Guillermo Del Toro", and he has long since declined to the offer.

off course I know that, I'll be looking up all of the links.

Heres the chat session, a lot of questions are answered there.

add it together.
scroll down to get the chasetsession.

Lego's Faher IS in the hobbit ( Thranduil, the elfking of Mirkwood. ) and propably PJ thought it would be fun to put him in a little cameo there. Here is the quote from the chatsession:

elffan9 Will we be seeing Legolas in Mirkwood?Guillermo del ToroWe all think that this is a very interesting idea but the scripts are in process so- sorry,.. too early to tell.

Aragorn, don't ask me, it's what I heard. Sure hope they won't put him in the hobbit. They are shooting 2 movies and only 1 is the hobbit. ;)

Gimli is Gloins son. It would seem more than likely that a dwarf son would come to his fathers aid when Thorin&co asked the Iron hills for help. Though I don't remember really well if Jhon rys-davies would come back too.

About these 3, I will ask for the links on the forum, but the person who is posting the info is a very good member and participated in the chat session with PJ and Torro. He's been watching and posting about the hobbit for a long time. The topic dates back to januari 2007 and loads of rumours and info has been posted.

Alan lee and john Howe

WetaHost10- Hi there, thanks for giving this opportunity. my question: will Alan Lee and John Howe be on board again? I really admire their work. good luck for this project and have a lot of fun.Guillermo del ToroAs aI said, I had a marvelous lunch with John and Alan in London a few days ago and we all got very excited as we discussed my ideas on Smaug, Mirkwood, etc They are most definetly back! Peter JacksonImpossible to imagine it without them!

quote for the schedule:

Peter Jackson Dear Jesslyn - at this point in time the plan is to write for the rest of this year and start early conceptual designs. 2009 will be dedicated to pre-production on both movies and 2010 will be the year we shoot both films back to back. Post productin follows one film at a time with The Hobbit being released Dec 2011, and F2 release Dec 2012. That is the schedule in about as much detail as we have ourselves at the moment.

questions answered? :)

extra:

swjedi18 Will be seeing The While Council in The Hobbit?Peter JacksonHi swjedi18 - To early to say before the scripts are written but it is definitely an idea we are discussing.

Galdor_Felagund How does Christopher Tolkien feel about the two new films?Peter JacksonHi Galdor - Christopher Tolkien did not wish to be involved in the LOTR movies and I would assuem his feelings are the same with these two films. I totally respect him for that since he is looking after the legacy of his father's books and does not wish to be involved in someone else's interpretation of those stories.

GOLLEM

WetaHost4 - Will Gollum play a role in the second film? If not, any plans to find a different role for Andy Serkis? Because, and I think most will agree with me, everything is better with more Serkis.Guillermo del ToroYes! As all of you know, Gollum has a rather fascinating arch to go through and his alliance to Shelob or his period of imprisonment in Thranduil's, etc but it is early still- so early in fact that to reveal more would tie our hands and be counterproductive. Guillermo del ToroThere can never be "too much Andy"

Film 2, possibly the attack on Dol Guldor?

Peter JacksonI'm really looking forward to developing Film Two. It gives us a freedom that we haven't really had on our Tolkien journey. Some of you may well say that's a good thing of course! The Hobbit is interesting in how Tolkien created a feeling of dangerous events unfolding, which preoccupy Gandalf. There's an awful lot of incident that happens during that 60 year gap. At this stage, we're not imagining a film that literally covers 60 years, like a bio-pic or documentary. We would figure out what happens during that 60 years, and choose one short section of time to drop in and dramatise for the screen. I'm really interested in how it effects The Hobbit - do we show what happens to Gandalg during his trips away? We'll see. We may well have seeds for Film Two that we'll subtly sow during The Hobbit.

during that 60 year gap between FotR and the hobbit that PJ speaks of, Dol Guldor was attacked and Sauron driven out by the white council.

but, also possible that the second movie is just part 2- the hobbit.

WetaHostConsidering that you're stretching The Hobbit into 2 movies can we assume that Beorn will be featured and will not be given the Tom Bombadil treatment?Guillermo del ToroI may be in the minority, but I absolutely LOVE Beorn and I intend to feature him in the films. BTW I also like TB quite a bit…

I think theyre making two and one wont be based on any of the books, but instead on the time between the end of the hobbit and the beginning of LOTR.

It seems more and more likely. Between the hobbit and the fellowship there is a 60-year gap and quite a lot happens in those years. ( white council attacks dol guldor, recolonisation of Moria, Sauron rebuilds power, Gondor attacked, )
