Mintt continued to stare at the strange boy, his eye beginning to twitch with aggravation. The boy finally noticed he was being stared at and pulled his headphones around his neck, music blaring out of the speakers. He turned lazily towards Mintt and called to him.
“Hey! What are you staring at?” The boy looked around to see if something was behind him. He turned back to Mintt and cringed his nose.
“What is that?! That smells horrible!” the boy yelled.
Mintt continued to stare at the boy, his hand sprouting a spearmint leaf. He plucked it from his hand and let it fly towards the boy, who was continuing to overreact. The leaf fluttered in the light, warm breeze of Stickholmes.
“Ugh! Spearmint!” The child swatted at the leaf until it flew up over the building. Mintt watched as it flew. Now he was getting pissed. He slung his black backpack to the ground, which hit with a loud clang that echoed off the walls of the alley. He bent down, the boy watching his every move carefully. The bag was unzipped and a pair of metal-looking gauntlets were pulled out. Mintt strapped them to his wrists, the light glinting off them as he did so. He took a boxing stance and stared at the boy once more.
“Soooo it's going to be a fight then? Over a silly smell? That's a bit idiotic, isn't it?” The boy asked. “If you're gonna fight, at least know my name. I'm Lexel.” He smiled awkwardly toward his opponent, who merely responded with another leaf.
Lexel picked the leaf out of the air and noticed something was written on it.
“Ah, so you're Mintt then?” He flicked the leaf into the wind and cast a serious glare towards his opponent.
“You don't talk much do you?” He asked. The boxer responded by merely shaking his head.
“If we're gonna fight, you're gonna have to talk sometime, you know that right?” He called, swinging himself over the edge of the dumpster and onto the ground. Mintt merely stared.
Lexel sighed and reached over his shoulder. He pulled a massive sword from an unseen sheath. Mintt continued to stare as the sword was fully unsheathed. Now, standing in front of him was the same, young cartoonish boy who had been listening to loud music not long ago. Only this time, an enormous sword was in his hand. Lexel pointed the sword towards him, and a gun barrel protruded from the hilt, aimed right at Mintt.
“Now then, let's begin.”
Mintt brought his gauntlets up just in time to block a bullet aimed for his heart. He smirked slightly as bullet after bullet glanced off the strong shielding. He kept his hands up as the bullets kept coming. He sidestepped and dodged several bullets, the clang of metal hitting brick enhanced by the close proximity of the walls. The barrage stopped suddenly and he separated the gauntlets to peek through. The boy was still standing there, the massive blade draped over his shoulder.
“You won't win if you don't make a move, ya' know.” He sneered.
Mintt nodded in response. He didn't move, and neither did the child.
“Ugh, you're boring me...” Lexel raised his hand to his mouth and closed his eyes as he yawned.
“Just fight al...ready...?” He opened his eyes and stopped suddenly as he realized that Mintt was nowhere around.
“What the hell?” He looked around frantically trying to pinpoint where he had gone.
Something brushed against his neck. Lexel turned his head and grabbed a spearmint leaf off his shoulder.
He read it aloud.
Never drop your guard.
Lexel noticed a shadow and quickly looked up. He brought his sword up just in time to parry a powerful axe kick. Mintt grabbed the butt of the blade with his hands and used it to swing himself under the blade. He swung up and brought his into Lexel's solar plexus before twisting his body and jumping away form the blade. Mintt landed gracefully, while his young opponent was on one knee, his sword driven into the ground.
“It's going to take more than that to take me down.” He gasped in pain as he pulled himself to his feet by the hilt of his blade.
Mintt nodded in response and took a boxing stance.
“Now... It's my go...” The boy smiled humorously and pointed his weapon at Mintt once again.
“Let's try a little acid this time...”
A click was heard as something changed in the weapon. Mintt tensed and began to run towards the boy. A shot was fired in his direction. He ducked as it sailed over his head, a drop of green slime sizzling on his neck. He cringed as he stopped his forward assault.
“Too much for you? Good.” He smiled as another shot was fired.
Mintt twisted as another green glob of acid missed him narrowly. Lexel didn't hesitate to fire another. Bullet after bullet of acid flew by him, each missing as Mintt expertly ducked and weaved. He ran forward once more, still dodging bullets. He ran closer, acid flying past him. The boy smiled and another click was heard. The boy jumped on the hilt of his weapon as Mintt continued forward, a smirk beginning to appear on the boxer's face.
Clever... But not clever enough... Mintt thought to himself. He sprinted faster, his arms pumping to get to his opponent faster. Lexel pulled the trigger on his gun-blade, sending him flying into the sky. Smoke was scattered across the ground, obscuring the boys vision of the alley below. The boy smiled and landed with a soft thud on the rooftop, a trail of smoke drifting from the barrel of his blade.
“Try this...” He muttered to himself. The familiar clicking noise was heard as the blade was pointed into the alley. A barrage of bullets were fired into smoke. The smoke thinning as the bullets pelted holes through it. He stopped as the ground started to become visible.
He stared into the alley, and it took a while before he realized that the scent of spearmint was on the wind. He sniffed the air to be sure, and a spearmint leaf landed on his nose. Lexel gagged and grabbed the leaf. He read it aloud to himself, pinching his nose shut:
You're smart. But try again. Lexel threw the leaf, but it only floated through the wind.
“Where are you...?” He looked down, the smoke thinning more.
“Well damn, I need to lay off the gas.” He chuckled to himself.
Because of his chuckling, he failed to hear the scraping of metal on concrete. The boy turned his head quickly as the noise neared, only to see the boxer sprinting low across the ground, his gauntlets sparking as they scraped the ground. Mintt launched off the ground and perfectly executed several front flips. Lexel barely had any time at all to leap back over the edge of the building before another axe kick broke the concrete where he had just been standing. The boy took a hold of his blade, still stuck in the building, and swung around by the hilt of the blade, meaning to catch Mintt in the back. But the boxer had easily leapt backwards, right over the kick that would have incapacitated anyone. Mintt landed with his knees bent, and used this position to launch himself at the boy; his gauntlets scraping across the ground again, leaving visible gouges. Lexel leapt over the edge of the building with his blade in hand. He switched the gun to Smoke Bomb, and fired. Mintt raised his gauntlets in defense, just as the bomb detonated and smoke fell down and filled the alley. Lexel landed, covering his eyes from the smoke that was once again filling the alley.
“Haha, cool.” He chuckled.
The boy took his gun-blade and put it too his back, where his special manufacturing stuck it there. With his free hand he unsheathed his other blade. A thin katana-like blade that literally glowed with power.
How dare you use me you insolent brat! The sword yelled to Lexel.
“Shut up.” He responded quietly.
Lexel grabbed the blade with both hands and twirled it over his head. He spun it faster and faster, the air filling with a strong wind, drawing in the smoke. The boy brought the blade down in a single slicing motion, and a strong gust blew in from nowhere, pushing the smoke away. Mintt was standing less than ten feet away, smirking at him.
“You fight well, for a child.” Mintt exclaimed, a mint leaf hanging from the corner of his mouth.
“I have more to come. And hey, you talked.” The boy shrugged jokingly, “Plus, I've seen you before. Mintty Fresh, light and heavyweight boxing champion. You even went pro before that RHG division guy beat you down. Plus you're only sixteen, so don't be acting all mature and crap. Oh, and B-T-Dubs, I'm a few years older than you, hash-tag clueless.” He smirked with this last part, winking aggravatingly towards Mintt.
The boxer clenched his fists at this and took a quick boxing stance.
“Let's go Mr. Macho!” Lexel shouted.
The boy ran straight for Mintt, his blade positioned in his steady hands.
Now... Reality Prediction... Mintt's eyes glowed with light as he raised his gauntlets.
Block thrust, parry spin slice, jump over leg sweep, block second thrust.. Mintt's mind was alive with the upcoming attacks from his opponent. Every move countered with his own. He smiled. That's when it started.
Lexel came within range and thrust his sword forward only to be blocked and pushed away by the gauntlets. He sneered as he countered by twisting his body around in a 360, bringing his sword around. Mintt responded by this, thrusting with his left forearm to block the blow. The boy flew past and skidded to halt. He planted his feet before sprinting back at Mintt, who was standing there, ready for the next attack. Lexel grunted as he ran low, ending in a twisting slide that was supposed to take his enemy off his feet. But Mintt had jumped before the blow, performing a double back flip with ease. Lexel saw his chance and used thrust his sword upward. Mintt was ready: he unclasped one of his gauntlets just in time and put it under his foot. The sword hit the gauntlet and Mintt used the power from the blow as a boost. He flew through the air, and landed a few feet away. He shook his hand out and cringed. He had lost a gauntlet.
“Damn, you're pretty good.” Lexel complimented, before noticing the missing gauntlet.
“You need this?” the boy pointed his sword to the gauntlet.
“If you don't want to die...” Mintt responded, uncertainty on his voice.
“I prefer a challenge. Take off the other one and show me what you got.”
Mintt nodded slowly as he unclasped the other gauntlet, throwing it to the side. Out of respect, Lexel kicked the other gauntlet away.
“Well now. Let's continue.” The boy lowered his blade to a fighting stance and charged.
Mintt twisted to the side, the blade narrowly missing his head. Lexel however, didn't hesitate to move into a full on uppercut slice. The butt of the blade caught Mintt in the gut. The Spearmint warrior was sent flying, breaking through the wall, bricks crashing down on him.
Crap... When did he get so fast...? Mintt thought to himself as he struggled to stand. Spearmint leaves wrapped themselves over the scrapes and bruises on his body.
“That's it you little piece of-” Mintt started.
“Now now, no need to use dirty language.” Lexel interrupted, wagging his finger disapprovingly.
You shouldn't dare be making disproving remarks, you thieving weakling! The blade hissed at him.
Lexel ignored the blade's taunts and lowered his sword. Mintt cracked his knuckles in response, smiling cruelly.
“Let's get this over with already.” He whispered.
“Whenever your ready, “Mr. Peppermint.” Lexel responded mockingly.
Mintt sprinted towards the boy, who in turn, charged at him.
Think... twist left, counter with uppercut..[/I. Mintt began.
Lexel thrust the sword forward, missing Mintt's arm due to the reactionary twist to the side. The boxer ducked under the sword, and brought his arm up in a strong motion, catching Lexel in the jaw, sending him stumbling back.
Duck, leg sweep, axe kick to chest...
The boy grunted and charged again, swingng his sword in a wide arc around his body. Mintt ducked under the blade until passed over his head. He leaped over the boy and landed softly behind him, spinning as he did. His leg made contact with Lexel's, the boy letting out a disgruntled noise of shock as he tripped. Mintt followed up quickly with a powerful scissor kick aimed at the boy's chest. He brought his foot down hard.
The ground underneath his foot was cracked and uneven from the kick. Mintt stared, shocked, that he had missed. Lexel was one his knees, gasping , a few feet away. He began to laugh as he picked himself up.
“Too close, wouldn't you say?” He managed in between gasps. He inhaled deeply and exhaled, now standing up straight.
“Let's give this one more shot, got it?” He pointed his sword and aimed it at chest level.
“Now for some real fun...” The boy winked and there was a click. Mintt tensed and realized that it was yet another gun-blade. He jumped as a small orb hit the ground below him. The orb made contact, a large explosion followed. Mintt landed and stumbled as the shock wave hit him.
Damn... He thought to himself.
Another click was barely audible, and another orb appeared through the smoke. Mintt barely dodged, dropping to the ground. Gasping with breath, he noticed he was trembling.
No... Not yet.. He clenched his fists and listened. The alley seemed quiet as Mintt strained to hear for any sound. Three clicks. Mintt jumped backwards as the ground exploded once more. His feet slammed against the wall behind him. He pushed off, the second orb making contact and crumbling the wall. He flew through the air and ran through the smoke.
Damn... Where's the third... He clenched his teeth, squinting his eyes to try and see through the smoke. He grunted as the last orb flew through the air, right towards him. It landed at his feet, sending him flying forward. He twisted his body and landed, skidding to a halt. More spearmint leaves wrapped themselves around his feet.
I have to get rid of this smoke... Mintt placed his hand on the ground and rolled into a spin. His shoulders slid across the ground
