I am a new user here and I am in 10th grade right now. For our computer project as extra credit, we need to make an animation and I chose to do a stick animation. But, the problem is, I have never done an animation before and I have been watching a lot of stick animations and my favorite so far has to be Shock 1 and 2. I don't know anything about making this whole thing start out and happen.
This is in Adobe Flash 7 by the way. And I need to know what layers to make and how to set up the frames and everything else. Since I am considering to make one against one fight or two against one. And I need to know how to make the stick figures move/run/punch/kick/etc, how to have the land move when they run somewhere, how to add sound effects and audio to the animation.
Sorry for all these questions but I want to make a good stick animation. Plus I need to know the basics and would it even be possible to download Flash on my computer? Since it would be a lot easier.
I am new here and I have a lot of questions.

Well, it's nice that you can conduct yourself accordingly to the forum's standards.
However, people will not be able to realistically answer your questions in a way that "teaches" you how to animate. Animating running, walking, punching, etc. correctly takes months of practice. You can't just read directions or watch a tutorial and just learn it, since those concepts are things present in most animations of the type you intend on creating, and you need to learn how to use them in the context of your own animation rather than the one being shown/described to you.
Some of your questions can be answered in a straightforward manner but at this point I'm not the one to be describing them, since I haven't animated for two years and I'm pretty unfamiliar with how to use it. I'm sure someone can explain a few things, though.
Good luck.

Well the way I see it, the only skills you need in animation are really good artistic skills and patience. This is because animation consists mostly of drawing things in certain positions in order to make them appear to move. It's really not as hard as it sounds. The only hard part is retaining your sanity throughout the process. That's where the patience part comes in.
And keep in mind that when looking for tutorials, try not to look for so much specifics, for example "how to have the land move when they run somewhere". When you try to find a tutorial discussing every single aspect of the animation you want to make, your animations will end up uniform and uninspired. That and you'll take much longer to create an animation since you'll be asking how to do certain things so much. All you really need to learn is character movement and particles, but those effects you can learn by watching videos on Youtube along the subject matter (I.E. slow motion car explosion or water drop), or through self analization and common sense (I.E. "How do you walk?).
And of course you can download Flash for your own computer. How else did you think Terkoiz made your favorite animations?

Well, I give thanks to you two guys, Exilement and Spazz for that advice. And I would download Flash on my computer, but I don't meet the system requirements for 512MB of RAM and 2.5 GB of available hard disk space. Any idea on how to fix this problem? Because if I had Flash on my computer, then I wouldn't have limited time to work on the project since I can only work on the project in computer class, which is not enough time.

Well you can fix that problem by buying more RAM and a larger hard drive for your computer, of course.

or delete shit from your hard drive.
unless you have a tiny hard drive.

I just need to know where I can buy more RAM and a larger hard drive? And how much it would cost me, also depending on what I get.

Anywhere that sells electronics, man. Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Max, etc. Or you could use a magical device that finds whatever you want at the click of a button. I think they call it "Google".

I tried getting RAM at one of those stores and they said I had to order from the website and Google?!? I never heard of such a thing.
Just kidding bout the Google thing.

Well I have a couple of ideas for the animation I am going to do, and so far I just animated the stick figure to start running. But, he is going to start running up a hill then the other stick figure that is at the top waiting for him, is going to jump down and attack him.

Trust me, school wise, even crappy animations impress teachers. I've gotten an A+ on an assignment just because I had a stick figure do a choppy looking cartwheel across the screen... >_>

Wow >.>
Well my teacher expects something not crappy from us, and even told my friend to come up with something better then just a car driving two feet. But, yeah I am gonna have my stick figure fight this other one, but when I bring in a 2nd stick figure, do I need to make them fight each other perfectly, as in setting the frames to make them hit each other, and not strike air?

I could make you some movement movie-clips that you could study.
What movements do you want?

Really?
Omg, I can't wait for the next unit of: Animation. I will own their asses. Can't wait to impress them all. =]
Anyways your an intelligent person. The only thing I must say is that take your time on animations and add easing(it's very important.)
Being creative is never bad.
What is easing?
Well, easing is the process of adding acceleration or deceleration to an animated sequence in Flash. That's a rather sterile description for an effect that can go a long way to adding realism to an animation.
