xD i already watched some funny replays with elementals bing the winner.
But tbh, i think they are pretty weak...well, ok, they have some nice spells (lol...that pheonix is so awesome :3), but you can easily predict them and therefore to avoid them lightly...

I remember I first wanted to cower at elementals, but now, I feel like V and the Combined Air Elemental are the only real threats. Still, we'll see what happens.

Also, is SAO any good? I hear people say it got too romantic/comedic rather than action-y after episode 5?

huh...well, i actually pretty like it. It has action/romantic and slighty bit romantic. But well, just try it out ^_^
