(I apologize in advance if this thread is a tiring read. Just trying to sound professional... or at least, accurate. :) Also, I hope this whole thing doesn't sound ridiculous to you.)
Hello! Some of you may not know me as a writer, but recently I realized that since I have much experience with writing and enjoy it quite a lot and not even nearly as much experience with animation (
in other words, I have lots of ideas but mediocre animation skills)
I should offer to develop my ideas for other, more skilled animators, and that means doing scriptwriting (perhaps with a little storyboarding on the side as well when necessary).
I've heard there may be some people out here looking to animate big projects but don't have a plot they're confident with. Therefore, if you're good enough to be featured on front page I can offer to write you a story, based on a theme of your preference (or even start from scratch, anything is ok). I can either do a thorough job and create a complex story with certain scenes to give characters depth and such or simply give you a basic script by which to guide your animation (quite frankly, I think I'd be better with the first option, because the success of an animation with a "basic script" relies a whole lot more on the animator than the writer).
Because I'll be a college student later this year and because I'm currently quite busy studying (and finishing some older, important projects) and any work I do has to be worth my time, I'd only appreciate working with skilled animators who are willing to apply for sponsorship with their project and provide me with a small share of it. That's only fair, after all. (Per short, I'm just trying to use my chill-out time wisely)
Here's an example of my writing, it's not exactly a scriptwright... It's part of a chapter of a novel I'm working on (that you can expect sometime next year, hopefully). This is one fragment that I thought sounded most like a scriptwright :
"At night, the headquarters looked no different from any other abandoned block around it. No lights betrayed the activity inside. The dirty halls were dead silent. Each team was in its office, either working or standing by. One department of all was most agitated, the Surveillance Squad A, a dozen men in charge of obtaining information to prevent attacks on time. It was past 4AM and they were investigating the case of David Chrysler, a local detective, who, unlike most of his unmotivated colleagues, had decided something had to be done about the dreadful series of murders. He was about to make a discovery that could unveil Scott Rivers to the public as the master-mind behind the assasinations. An inside man of the organizaton was always by Chrysler’s side to keep the Surveillance Squad updated. However, Rivers had his own connections and had found out about the detective’s advances in the case. The Squad was anticipating an attack anytime that day. The entire team was ready for an alert intervention, including Kyle Seth who was hoping to catch Rivers red-handed himself.
The discussions in the surveillance room were intrerupted by a long-awaited phone call.
“Yes, Mason. Report.”
“Seth, they’ve broken in through the back. They’re throwing gas grenades all over the place. Hurry in. I can’t stay up much longer.” Mason’s voice coming from the speaker weakened and faded as the sleeping gas was taking effect. Seth turned firmly to his team. “We’re not getting any more information from him, that’s for sure. It’s time to head out.”
The corridors were now loud with the sounds of heavy footsteps. The squad had hardly five minutes to show up at the police department before Chrysler would draw his final breath. Their insider, Mason, would be unconscious for hours.
They ran vigilently under the dim moonlight, most of them separately, drawing no attention from any late-night passer-by or one of the few police officers on patrol. Skull walked along with his team-mate, Damien ‘Jaw’ Johnson, who bizarre mask could hardly be kept from sight under the hoodie he was wearing."
An example of slightly more descriptive writing :
"Never before had Patrick Robertson felt so uneasy on the city streets at night. He walked home as fast as he could but slow enough to still notice anything lurking in the shadows. In the small neighborhood he was crossing, the pavement had always been cracked, the sewer clogged and street lights pale and fade. The place had a notorious reputation. The grey drain water pouring down the sides of the street was not the only smell of death in the air. Inside the old, bedraggled houses shone the mortuary light of tired down light-bulbs.
Patrick pulled a cigarette out of his pack as he remembered the terrifying evening murder news. He lit it up and smoked as he walked. It did not distract him from the surroundings. His teeth clenched and he had chills through his spine every time a rat knocked over an empty can, or he saw the shadow of one of the cautious, older residents staring at him through the window."
I can also write comedy, if anyone's interested, although I don't think my kind of humor would suit a stick animation. I've written a couple of episodes for a sitcom that was never made. However, if humor is what you're looking for, I can give you an example and we'll see what we can do.
I hope the thread isn't a mess. Contact me if you need me. Otherwise, let me know what you think about this idea. Will it work? Is it ridiculous and unnecessary? xD If you have any questions whatsoever related to this ask away. :) Thanks.
Waiting for animators to work with ! ^_^
