If you want to be creative while animating, you have to be on a computer... Oh the irony

Not by any means....at all.

-If you want to get some really good help with animation movements and poses. Get up, go to the mall or some other crowded area that you can sit. And sketch the positions of people you see on a notebook. They can be sticks, just get the pose down. Try to draw the objects that they have and examine the movements of peoples clothes when they move. How does hair move when someone walks? Think of camera angles. Sketch your current position from a ceiling perspective or from someone else's perspective.

-Or go into nature and throw rocks into water. When you throw it up, it lingers in the air for half a second before gravity takes effect and sends it into the water. How are the patterns of the ripples? How can you incorporate that effect into your animations.

-Buy post it notes, lots of them. Go see a sporting event. Make a stick throwing a football. Or jumping to catch a basketball and spinning around another stick. (yes, post it note animations can be tricky because there is little to no onion skin, but its fantastic animation practice.)

-Go to the movies. EXAMINE THE EFFECTS AND MOVEMENTS. This helped me tremendously. You can watch films at home if you want, but look at the movements and angles and try to incorporate them into your animations.

There are HUNDREDS of ways to be creative at animating without being on a computer. The computer is the tool to show the world your imaginative creativity. The computer wont make you better, your will to get better will make you better.

Get away from my computer? I don't think that's possible.
