I was watching strawdogs the other day, and at the end where the group of rapists and the coach try to break into this guy's house, the main char is smart and uses objects like boiling oil, fireplace bar (idk), and a nail gun to protect him and his girl. so it made me think, what if this stuff happened to me?

So, if someone broke into your house and you were the only one there, or the oldest and needed to protect your wife or siblings, what would you do?
keep in mind that not everyone owns a gun.
what would you do to defend yourself and your family, where would you go, what weapons would you use?
