So I've read some posts around the forums and the most notable things(aside from zed leaving :( )
is Erin talking about not much information/help for flash animators. I get where she would be coming from if she means
there's not much modern stuff around to learn. Quite honestly most of the tutorials and information are from years back
and there's hundreds of techniques that were introduced or changed in the past 5 years through evolution
in the animation world.
So I'm going to take some time from my already very busy life to help run and manage the focus of this thread.

So how this thread is going to work is one person will post an Animation.
If it's on youtube, include the name/title of the animation so if the link ever gets taken down people will still be able to look it up.
Name the time(s) that the technique you're looking to learn if it takes place only for a small timeframe.

After you post a video/animation and ask about the technique,
Me / Community will work towards helping you understand;

  • how it works
  • how to use it
  • how they did it

If none of us understand the Technique or know anything about it,
we discus different ways on how we think we can make it happen.
Making tests are encouraged as well as detailed information, or just some advice or simple help.

Unfortunately the information I give personally will be intended for Flash only.

As well by working on the forums instead of the IRC is that everything will be on file for everyone to access as well we can do it in our own timeframe.
Aside from that if this thread hits off I'll make a contents bar listing the different techniques and such so one should be able to navigate with ease.
This should prevent unnecessary repeat questions (and if someone does ask we can direct them to that page/post)

Would anyone like to start with something they'd like to learn?
Or should I try to kick it off with an example?

Why not just give people decent advice and feedback in the section meant specifically for sharing animations? Isn't that part of the problem around here?

I think the idea here is to help people achieve something specific which they can't do, rather than improving the quality of what they already do. There's a difference between helping people perfect their easing and helping someone work out how to get that flamethrower working. Although it might be better as part of that new sticky in the Official Tutorials section so that it doesn't get buried in the growing landfill site that is General Discussion.

Zed summed it up very nicely. As well it would get burred quickly over there as people all have their individual animations they want looked at.

I'll go check it out, I haven't noticed it before.
Besides, I'm sure Hidro would be thrilled.

I love the idea, I think it compliments with the critique requests thing excellently, but I would like to keep them in separate posts.

I would start, but I really dont feel curious as for any technique in this moment, but I will try to be as helpful as I can here :]

[Edit]
I take that back, do any of you guys know how to accomplish this style?

I would think he just draws the limbs outlines, then he fills them, but that would make them way wobblier, or is that the way?

This style actually first came around when people started buying tablets with pressure sensitivity capabilities.
By letting the brush start with a thick line by the feet and hands and working their way towards the body, letting the lines thin up as they went along.
It's a very time consuming process to do it like this.

Now, some people didn't have a steady enough hand to do all the limbs with the same brush so what they would do is use a thin brush for the whole body and come back later with a thicker brush with a bigger brush and pressure settings to make the forearms and lower legs.
And this actually made things move a little bit faster.
when flash starts.

Note;
You will need a tablet hooked up to your computer before starting flash in order to use the Pressure Settings.
While the brush tool is selected you can find it on the Tools Menu, it looks like a tear drop at an angle.

This is a training session I did with Rosie awhile as a way to sorta teach both fluid and smooth ways to keep your combos at different style paces...
Pretty much stuff I learned from both Omega and Zinx3rd...

I thought this was already being done by the stickpage tutorial team? http://forums.stickpage.com/showthread.php?54850-Stickpage-s-Tutorial-Team

Or am I just not understanding what this is exactly, seems like both of these accomplish the same thing, but the tutorial team is just more one-on-one.

As I understand it, the tutorial team look at your animation in detail and tell you how you can improve it. This is about looking at someone else's animation in detail to learn how they achieved a certain effect.

Yeah, but the first one can encompass the second one very easily, is what I'm getting at. It would be more productive to give the effect a shot yourself, then have someone critique it and tell you how you did and what you can do to improve. I could go one-on-one and say, "I was trying to accomplish the effect from X, here is my animation Y."

That would make a lot of sense, but, the thing is, what if you just have no idea how you would even start to go about creating the effect?
That's where I think this thread would come in.

That makes sense. In that case this would be better off in the tutorials section.
