It entirely depends on the context of the situation, for instance, for gender-balanced nations, I don't think it's a problem, but with countries that have a certain gender preference, abortion should be illegal, because the world needs a healthy balance of males and females in order to sustain itself. Going in deeper, towards the political area of this, you need to think about how they would feel. Like in the U.S., Republicans are pro-life, so abortion legalization would most likely take a step back, while with Democrats, being pro-choice, legalization of abortion would most likely go the other way, but public opinion will also take an effect on what politicians do. Going even deeper to the citizen aspect of it, a couple may not be ready for a child, or the child has come out of rape or sex without safety. There may also be parent opinions or finance problems to worry about, even ethnic backgrounds will influence whether abortion is the right choice or not. Again, it all depends on the context of the situation.

Yeah I think its one of those tricky situations. I don't think it should be illegal perse, but I don't think it should be used as a form of birth control. Believe it or not, many 'women' use it for such purpose. Simply because they are to irresponsible to take the right precautions when trying to not get pregnant. At the very same time, how could you deny such a terribly irresponsible person to HAVE a child.

Same goes in the rape situation, is the person really going to be able to look a child of theirs in the face that they had due to being raped and being impregnated? Overall, I don't think it should be ILLEGAL, but it should be regulated on each situation, if that's even possible? Does it really have to be a pass/ fail | yes / no type situation?

Hmmm. I believe part of being brought into this world means having a parent/parents that will care, nurture and love you.
If a child has parents that are unable OR unwilling to provide those things, than I think abortion should be the answer. Abortion isn't necessarily just a remedy for irresponsible adults, it also helps prevents miserable lives.

@Stone
If I remember correctly, here in the UK, we have a law that in order to have an abortion, two doctors must agree that you need one, and I think they have a list of criteria, and one of those criteria must be applicable to you (examples include: the pregnancy is the result of rape, you will be physically or psychologically damaged if the baby were to come to term, the child has genetic issues so would suffer, you aren't economically able to provide for the child ect. ect.)
