Anybody ever make stuff out of lego?

I made this card throwing thing the other day.

Here it is.

That pic was for demonstartion only, I usually just turn the machine, and put the cards in it like that.

My house:


And the cards are circled in red. It usually flies about 10-20 feet.


The trick to it, i found out, was to have the card hit something on the machine on the way into the wheels, then it comes out spinning. I have a little guard on the top of it, so when it gets hit, the card actually goes somewhere.

Anybody else have cool creations or stuff like that?

nice. i have some that i found on the vast internets.
like: a working lego les paul guitar, a portal mindstorm turret, and i have made a roller coaster and a sniper.

Those are Knex, not Legos.

I have an NXT turret that just shoots a ball when it finds something made. It's being used a lot for parts, though. the main trick that i had with it was that i wanted to use only 2 motors. so it has the reload mechanism on the same motor as the firing motor. So it doesn't shoot far.

That looks a lot like the Mythbusters playing card thrower. I have to agree that the trick is getting maximum spin, that keeps it from turning vertically and losing its lift. I can throw playing cards pretty well and speed is actually NOT key to doing it right.

I made a turtle some years ago. Attached a motor so it could walk (roll actually), when it hit something hard it would turn 30 degrees and try again..

anyways, I made a patato cannon. I've also made a miniture bomb that has bbs stuffed in it. =D
