I've been wondering about this for a while. Do you get chosen to be moderator or something?

I believe so. I think the moderators find someone (or several) they believe qualifies and would do well in the position, then I guess they vote on it? That's my theory...

If you have questions like this then PM an admin or a moderator, unless you enjoy reading blind guesses from people who really shouldn't be answering questions like these.
When we feel like we need more moderators, we accept applications and then collectively decide on who's best suited for the job. We look for maturity, active participation and contribution to the forum, length of time you've been here and other things that generally make someone a good candidate for the position.

you guys don't know anything, you don't know what went on behind the scenes when you were being elected. as an experienced ex-moderator i can safely assure you that the only way to become a moderator is to be popular and sassy and cool on the internet

That somewhat makes sense, i guess.
If I could, I would try out for Jack of all trades.

Quote from HewittSassy is no longer a cool word.
I think it was replaced by swag.
But swag isn't a cool word either

Quote from HewittOh yeah one more thing, you also have to basically suck every previous mod's dick to be a mod. It's da rules.
That's real mature, Hewitt. A great example you are setting for future core mods... >_<
Anyways, showing a polite, insightful attitude is also a big responsibility of moderation. I'm not a mod myself but I have "moderated," so to speak. I don't like to wait for a mod to intervene when I see a war unfolding, or a troll emerging from under their bridge. I deal with them as I see them, unless a mod has already intervened.
In other words, I feel a certain duty to intervene on the forum's behalf if I perceive something that would divert the thread from what it was intended for (I.e, flaming, trolling, etc.). If it's just one person, in just one or two comments, or something that's obviously a joke (see above) I usually take little notice. Neither would many moderators. However, when I see someone make something a purely fun joke, but someone takes it the wrong way, I intervene. For example, what happened between CaM and ahmad. Apex93 also took notice, and my reply to the whole thing was this:
Quote from GrimmtheReaperLol, Gunnii, that pick-up line. Anyway, I agree with Apex. Besides, CaM is just as guilty of flaming as Ahmad, and Ahmad was provoked.
CaM, I see why you reacted that way, but that was still uncalled for. You could have been polite, and he would have explained it to you without further insult.
Ahmad, I can tell that you meant part of your comment as a joke, but it still wasn't the best thing to say.
Please try to get along. These forums don't need these kind of arguments. It degrades the thread and does little to change the situation.
I might apply for moderator next time it opens up. I joined the Debate Thread to challenge my intellect and perception. Speaking of debates, I think I'll go there now...
Quote from SmileI bet I know someone who's about to get one
Yep. Looks like that guy was flaming to me...

ummm, why does this thread even still exist.
There was a thread addressing the issue of apply to be a mod, I understand that the application window has closed so since you weren't here then you feel the need to ask. But I think this question has been answered so yeah....you know what to do. Hewitt (ha ha better pull your trousers down then) and Grimm (I don't want to see you get banned again so CHILL) both of you please don't go down this road AGAIN , lets just stop this before it goes any further. Okay guys
EDIT: *coughs* Getting too old for this shit *coughs*

Quote from HewittIt also helps if you don't have a shoddy record of infractions and just between you and me...a childish username.
Ooh, I know exactly what you're talking about
