Depends on what you're fighting against/using it for.
Katana in terms of speed, weight, cutting potential and beauty. Broadsword in terms of power, versatility, durability and when fighting against an armored opponent.
I prefer the Katana, if we're talking in terms of aesthetics and not convenience, mostly because of the mystique and culture around the weapon, and how it's portrayed ridiculously inaccurately in modern media, such as in anime, manga, comic books and movies.

Here's the deal, I've had years of experience with both. It just depends on the wielder. I mean a sword is just and extension of yourself. A rusty spoon can possibly beat both. But i would rather prefer a hunisakinoi katana or any tabon weapon. So yeah id give it to the katanna. But a broadsword has epic reliability in durability standards. But it's hard to find one that don sent have a chord rod handle that can snap in half with one swing.
