No, you don't need a new digital TV, you need it to display all the high definition, but you don't need it to read the signal. I have this small little portable TV in my room that I'll still be able to use once we get one of those converter boxes and/or a digital antenna. It won't be high definition, but I don't see what the big deal of high def is anways, so I don't care. =P
