I can't run any .exe at all, thus, can't run system restore.

Some programs just give an error, like right clicking on desktop and going to programs, it gives me some "Cannot open blah blah" instead of just "Cannot find..."

I'm really hell bent on just figuring out a way to fix it or even whats just wrong with it before I result to a complete reformat.

So what is that you can do exactly?

They really ****ed the computer up.

So can you get into the task manager?

Right-clicking the desktop and going to properties gives me "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found"

So that's obviously broken/corrupted

Unless there's another way to get into Task Manager, because I don't know of any

What's bizarre, if I open up Internet Explorer, it says it cannot find the program, but if I click a link to a website, IE opens up fine and goes to the website.

Wait a tick, I forgot you don't get to task manager through properties, but task manager IS grayed out via right click menu.

Possible solution:

1. Put the Windows XP CD ROM disk in the CD ROM drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type expand X:\i386\rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe in the Open box, where X is the letter of your CD ROM Drive.
4. Restart the computer.

I was thinking about that ever since I actually took the time to read the error

Problem is, the only windows cd we had snapped into a few pieces (totally my fault, it was... on the floor when I was moving furniture around)

When you run it on safe mode, does anything work? Like system restore anti-virus crap and the like?

Nothing works, it just gives me "Windows cannot find the program you are trying to open" (not exactly, but that's basically it), safe mode or not.

Check if you find a copy of rundll32.exe in the folder C:\windows\system32\dllcache or in C:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386. If this is the case, go ahead and copy rundll32.exe to the system folder C:\windows\system32

1. Download Ubuntu live CD http://ubuntu.com/
2. Install to free disk space (you'll remove it when you're done)
3. Install Azureus on Ubuntu and pirate windows
4. MSN me for genuine windows key
5. Install genuine windows in virtual machine
6. Connect real windows to virtual machine
7. Install NOD32 in virtual machine
8. Scan and clean real windows drive
9. Remove Ubuntu

Probably not the fastest way, though i'm pretty sure it would work. No need to format anything.

This is not illegal since you were only using the pirate versions temporarily to run antivirus. You aren't installing illegal versions of anything for permanent use.
