DesertEagle's Movement Tutorial

Although I may not be that good of an Eztooner, I decided to make this tutorial because I was bored and because there are so few Easytoon tutorials. So don't expect Veteran material, I am just here to help a bit.

Basic Punches
Punches are of course an important part of most animations, because most animations involve hand-to-hand fighting. I will show you two kinds of punches.

Type one: Still Stance

This type of punch is carried out without taking a step forward, thus making it less powerful. I used six frames, many animators may use more. For Eztoon I prefer using less frames at 6-8 frame delay, because I usually have my stickmen very small in the end, after zooming out.

Frame 1:
Image
The stickman is in a solid stance. I zoomed in a lot, don't forget to zoom out when finished!

Frame 2:
Image
He leans backward a little bit, the punching arm goes back and isn't visible anymore.

Frame 3:
Image
You see the punching arm winding up for the punch. The supportive arm goes up a bit. You see the stickman leaning into his back foot.

Frame 4:
Image
The punching arm goes at the same level as the head and you see that it is bent. The supportive arm doesn't move much, stance doesn't change.

Frame 5:
Image
The punching arm isn't visible, it's "behind" the head. The supportive arm goes back, the whole dude leans forward already.

Frame 6:
Image
There you go, the actual punch. The arm rushes forward. The supportive arm swings backward, the stickman leans into the punch, but not much.

Optional Addition

I always like to add this after the punch to have a good start for a fast combo. It's already a tricky move because he spins around 180°.

Warning: I kinda screwed this frame >_> but I don't feel like re-doing it.

Basic Kick

Of course, punching isn't the only thing you will need in a fight. Let's move on to kicking.

Frame 1:
Image
Again, we start with a basic stance.

Frame 2:
Image
He leans forward a little bit. The kicking leg begins to bend.

Frame 3:
Image

Frame 4:
Image
Now, the kicking leg is liftet from the ground, he leans forward lots more.

Frame 5:
Image
He gets his leg in tighter and goes forward.

Frame 6:
Image
The kicking leg comes out forward now, the other leg is almost straight down.

Frame 7:
Image
Now, the whole kicking leg has passed the standing leg. His upper body bends.

Frame 8:
Image
Let's go. The leg isn't bent anymore, but it isn't stretched completely. You will notice the little trail I added. I will tell you more about that later. He is leaning his standing leg forward a lot more.

Frame 9:
Image
The leg is streched. He leans forward a bit more, his upper body bends more.

Frame 10 + 11:
Image

Image
Just two easing frames, make the movements go slower and slower within those. His upper body unbents.

Frame 12:
Image
The standing leg now goes forward more, he is starting to get his kicking leg to the ground. His upper body isn't bent anymore.

After this, just add some frames to get his leg down.

the kick was so slow, it wasn't even a kick it was it.... was..... a......................well it was bad, you should add less frames or just make the movements more apart.

I agree, even though this is semi old. You need so much better easing and it all just looked off kilter.

Well, you need to animate the frames in between FOOT ON GROUND and FOOT IN FACE

the punch was useful but the kick was too slow and simple. I was hoping for the second foot to swing around 360 horizontal for like a dragon kick but anyways it was pretty useful for my cartoons :)

Why should I get angry? You go to "View" and then there should be somthing like "Frame Delay" or so. The lower it is, the faster your animation goes.
