Why do we need a protagonist?
The way I see it, it could be a creation story without a protagonist, i.e.
In the beginning, there was nothing. But where there is nothing, something shall take its place with time; and soon enough, the something that took place was the Creation.
The Creation was brought upon nothingness; and out of the Creation, our world sprang to fruition, with sky and sea and earth and gods, all at once.
The gods were thirteen in total, and they are...
Well, there goes a simple Beginning of the World story, and there is no protagonist.
As for the End of the World, this will be fun.
Yet, even the Thirteen did not know this.
For it is demanded that everything since the Creation obey the laws of Creation; even the Creation itself.
Thus, the rule of Balance decreed that the Destroyer must come to be, for the Creation must have its opposite.
And with the Destroyer came the Great Destruction... And the Thirteen realized that, alone, none of them were great enough to stand in its way.
Thus, the Thirteen united once more, and stood against the Destroyer in what is now known as the First War.
Simply put, not every creation story has to have a protagonist. We can always put it down to some Taoist philosophies.
That was a rough draft I came up with on the spot, so please excuse the poor writing.
